Talking Tuningbox for MOD. Is it a good option?

Has anyone had experience of fitting a tuning box...its a Belgian company who say they've loads of experience with diesels, they seem not too bad...tuning box . com
They claim a 25% increase in power...but hey

Anyway desparate to do something to beef up the engine, so any advice and help would be grand

Cheers folks!

Is it off Ebay?
Price will normally give you a good idea if it will be any good, look to pay approx £300 mark for a good re-map or chip.

An ECU re-map (Chip) would be safer. A tuning box is more likely to bring up a fault, although I think PepperD has run one for a few years now with no probbo's!

More on the tunning box....any solid alternatives>?

Found an old thread from a guy called Blue flash and this is what he has to say on the matter.....it only took 30 secods to fitt. on the roling road it had a 12bhp and 14 lbs/torque gain at the wheels which is aprox 22% gain. to drive it revs freely now and pulls like a train between 2000 and 4000 rpm and will keep going into the red if you want to.a must have ,it makes the car a lot more drivable and makes it more like a cooper than a mini one. done 150 miles with it fited and if i drive it sensible it is returning 8 mpg more than it did before.the exta torque meens you dont need to use the throtle as hard.

It seems more and more tempting an option, but no the tuning box is not from ebay, its on a website just put .com after tunningbox.

If anyone checks out the site let me know what they think>?

Aye pepperD seems to be the mac daddy for modding his car, read a few of his replies in other threads

On the fault issue...i'm not to sure cos i read their website and it doesn't remap the engine just alters the signal from the current prog it's running into the tuning box, and it can be whipped out in 2 mins if a service is needed.

Mind u i've already had my engine remapped by the bm guy's, wasn't pulling more than 2500rpm when the turbo kicked in!

Thats the possible problem, because it increases the fuel pressure in the rail, it might fool the ecu and throw up a fault. Thats how I understood it anyway. Was speaking to a Landrover mechanic, and he said you would be safer going for a re-map if you can afford it - he said they never check the ecu on services!

i think we are all in favor of a Ray West remap on here. we should all get together and see if we can get a discount price.

i had a tuningbox fitted to my golf gt tdi and the difference was night and day(don't know why they didn't leave the factory like this)with no problems, also made my fuel economy much better! was considering it myself just because it can be pulled out for service. the other way i was going to go was a remap looked into it and some guy said he could get 100bhp out of the engine safely,he runs a one d with this mod himself, but trips to the dealer put me off.decisions decisions

Decisions indeed, yeah i like the idea of being able to pull out the evidence from the engine.....these guys have been going for years and seem to know thier stuff.....many top marques have been delt with before the mini

The ECU option seems quite a good one, but i don't fancy remapping the engine and all the possible warrenty issues that this throw up.

Could be tempted by the Ray West remap, if folk want to club together this could also interest me and benefit us as a whole!>?

Into the bargain i don't want to remap the engine, and cos undue wear and tear>?

Anyway other views and thoughts would be grand, just want the broadest possible view before i jump into it.

Have been loving toasting my MOD but wish more from it

Have bitten the bullet!

Well my time of weighing up the options of ECU remapping and tuning boxes is over!
Have just bought a PowerKlick tuning box after reading a few replies in some other threads and checking out the website...came in at £239 on good old ebay...£60 cheaper than normal so will keep all updated when it comes through the post hopefully on tuesday!

Another thing, phoned my BM dealer and asked one of the mechanincs to find out the specific horse power of my car, as i didn't know if i had a 75 or 88bhp MOD....his reply was 80bhp....hmmmm kinda threw me, does any1 think BMW are lying to us and turning out MODs with and old BHP>?

No complaints from me....but i wonder if the mechanic is just plain ******** me!

Nice one, that's what i thought....find it wierd that the mechanic said it was 80bhp.....he was prob tripping! Mind you, the have remapped the ECU due to a fault in the revs, pulling only to 2500rpm when the turbo kicked in....do you think that when they did this they might have squeezed 5bhp extra out of the engine due to adjusting the software>?
