MOD too slow...

Hey guys, i just wanted to say that in the past week I've been badly beat in little racers with cooper S's. Yesterday for example, this guy flew past me at a hell of a speed, I could barely keep up and within seocnds he was gone. Are cooper S's really that fast? it rocketed by at a hell of a speed.

Also, what advantages does our diesel have over the S's? Other than MPG. None?

What ways are there to mod my car? I'm aware of remaps and chips but dont know of any other way to speed up my car. I'd like to stand at least some chance against a cooper

Im aware of the warranty disadvantages of remaping, but is there any physical disadvantage to the car? I dont care about insurance and warranty problems.

Well yes they are faster, I was overtaken by a AX Gt once and that was it My MOD had to be remapped, makes the car alot better.
You will keep up with an S on the bendy's never on a straight.
Disadvantages of re-mapping/chipping is overall it will knock life off the engine, but depends how long you gonna keep the car

The Cooper S has double the power of a MOD. Add another engine and you'll keep up

It was acceptable in the 80's

A diesel engine has better low-end power. I don't know how much snow you get there, but a diesel car + snow tires is the best on-road vehicle for winter. The diesel engine will probably last longer, too.

The Cooper S still has more power than the MOD right across the rev range though.

Ha ha, this thread is going to get silly I can see.....

A Re-mapped Diesel engine should last a while even if re-mapped, as long as you don't go silly with the Torque increase, or you will start getting through gear-boxes very rapidly - it will not cope with the twisting forces, but a bit above the Standard CooperS torque output shouldn't cause any problems.

I mean, what will it be re-mapped to? 95-100bhp? The standard OneD is now 88bhp, so that is only a 12bhp increase on standard, thats how I am looking at it.

Si, you mentioned the AX GT beating you, I had a similar occurrance the other week, when setting off from a roundabout on a dualcarraigeway, I only just managed to outdrag a 1.0 litre (I think, it looked standard) Citroen AX, and that was by doing some quick and strategic gear changes to use the torque, I really had to think - just to slowly pass a 1.0AZ. At that point I thought, that is it, something has to be done to this engine MAP.........

There are lots of things you can do to the OneD to make it more responsive, and lots of threads on the Diesel forum about it, and similarly, lots of Threads and questions about the performance of the OneD have been answered. Don't believe all you read in the Mags.

It does depend what you are looking for. If it is speed, then you buy an Impreza/Evo etc and pay the fuel bill/Insurance etc. If its a nice combination of Non-Humiliating acceleration (Much faster than an old MINI straight line speed) brilliant handling, minimal insurance costs, minimal fuel/running costs, brilliant feeling whilst driving it that you want, you buy a MINI OneD............

Couldn't agree more - so who's best to get the remap from? I see from the Lohen site that a Bluefin is promised for the OneD soon....

Remember, it's just as easy to lose your license in a D.

Though you could do it so much quicker in an S.

I reckon 70mph is every bit as fast in a D as in an S.

But I have to admit (having had my first experience of an S as a courtesy car the other week), that it's much, much harder to stay within the legal limits in an S!
