Why did you go for the Diesel?

Given that we all chose to spend more on a One D than a One would have cost us what were your reasons for doing so?

For me it was emissions... I'm compensating for the RAV4 we have as our other car...

Economy was a major consideration - i was getting 28-32mpg from my previous MCS. The only way I could still drive a MINI was to get a diesel. I tried a Skoda Favia VRS which was amazingly fast but still didn't handle like a MINI. I'm now getting 550 miles to the tankful and have halved my fuel cost, not to mention cheaper insurance.
Obviously not as fast in a straight line as a MCS but very, very enjoyable and great FUN!

There is NOTHING like a MINI!

Mini Handling, 600 miles to a tank. Yeh its slow off the line, but its 50 to 70 that counts. For a small car it cruises like a mercedes - i dont get tired on the long journeys i so frequently do.

I'm one of the people that chose to spend more on a One D than an S!
It was about filling up with fuel twice a month instead of twice a week, about spending £200 per year on insurance instead of £100 per month and the only thing I had to give up were those odd 5 seconds every journey that I could let rip in my old Clio 172 before catching up with the next queue of stationary traffic!

diesel power

diesel is the way forward!!!!!! runs on anything(practically) cooking oil,veg or sunflower, peanut oil, rape seed oil,oh and diesel as well!. Thats why the government keep putting the price up on diesel(more expensive than petrol, not in the old days)modern common rail diesel's are a leap forward in technology and just keep getting better!!

The emissions can help on the Taxing, you get more out of a tank and more per gallon!

Well we tried the Mini Cooper and then tried the Mini One D, and apart from off the line here wasn't really that much in it, well there was but not as much as the figures suggest, and for motorway driving the Diesel definitely has the edge, at 85 mph the D is sitting nicely just above 2,000rpm where as the Cooper was doing 4500 rpm and felt like it needed different gearing. So this brings us on to remaps, once remapped the One D is completely different, it is how it should be, it needs 110bhp from the factory and the extra torquem, and I knew this when I bought the diesel.

I would not have one stock as there is not enough umphh, and all the diesel owners will bang on about reall world conditions etc., well that is just tosh imho, a cooper that does the 0-60mph sprint nearly 5 seconds quicker will still be quicker in real world driving too, however after a reamp that gap is seriously reduced and the 45mpg Vs 30mpg does make a difference, combined with the TLC package it becomes a very, very cheap car to run.

Thumbs up

I've just got back from 5 weeks driving around europe in my one d, can actually get 720 miles out of tank of diesel! Drove around 3500miles and didn't get a sore back once! the dude who said it's like cruising around in a merc is soooh right. Also at 80 mph i got 49.1 mpg.....ooh that's sweet! Have had a mini cooper as a curt car, and it feels like ure flogging a dead horse to get the thing going (now realise why they brought out the MCS)....i know those of u having just read that will be thinking the same of the MOD, but when u know how to drive it the car, it's so much more fun!
Finally after many months of problems with hot statring issue i'm getting my re-map put back on the MOD....and it's something that makes the car like a rocket...110 bhp all the way

Unhappy

Yeah i wish....got the remap back in feb/march, and the hot start prob came back and got so much worse. But for now (7 trips to bmw later) it just seems to have dissapeared......wierd as hell, needless to say MINI couldn't fix the problem! Getting my remap put on again this monday
I don't think it's anything to do with the dde unit, and that its just a small mechanical fault, like an engine part wearing down that they'll never be able to locate, as they're so obsessed with the engine software being the source of the fault.
Out of interest what was the build date of ure car>? Mine was july 2003.....as u know they use different batches of components every 500 cars etc, in case there is a fault in one batch of parts they use....means they only have to re-call 500 cars instead of 5000. Anyway wrong thread for me to give this chat in, but would be interested in ure build date incase some of the cars with the fault have the same date>?
Adios amigo
