DIY Tuning the OneD - your experiences

There have been a lot of threads recently on chipping the OneD. Hardly supprising as a lot of them are now coming out of warranty, and a lot of us are three years older as well, and want a little more zip in our lives What I would like to is create a single thread, with the experience of others. I and others have the same questions.

Is / Was your Mini a 75 or 88 BHP version
What remap did you go for ?
What were the improvements ?
What happened to fuel consumption ?
What effect did it have on your insurance ?
Any resale experiences ?
What was the cost ?

This would be a tremendous resource for all Mini OneD'ers keeping this thread clean and chatter free would be helpful for future searchers (yes I have - I read everything). It may be prudent to create a tuning chatter thread to keep this one clean. (Now there is a thread for chatter)

Anyway, I gratefully wait for your responses.

I know you want it chatter free - but just wanted to say - awesome idea. I will certainly be watching this thread with interest.

Q&A.

What remap did you go for ? MTH - 95 Bhp Claimed

What were the improvements ?
113mph top speed, not tried 0-60, but in gear speeds are tremedously better. Would say it is just a bit quicker than the 88bhp OneD, so is probably approx 90-95bhp....

What happened to fuel consumption ?
Stayed the same. Although just got 602 miles before I had to re-fill, with 52 miles remaining on the range, this included two 150 mile trips on the motorway, and 20 mile each way journey to work, with air-con for 60% of the mileage, so it might be getting better as the mileage increases, been installed for 4k miles now after its first service, where the remap was installed for 5k

What effect did it have on your insurance ? +£70

Any resale experiences ?
I purchased USB cable and had the tuner file issued to myself, so the remap is reversable (Can return my car to standard '75bhp'). Not resold yet, but car will be returned to standard if I do.

What was the cost ? £245

Any Issues?
It smokes a little when you boot it now, but with a derv, no smoke = no poke. It doesn't smoke any more than VW 2.0L Tdi's though if not as much!!!

Hope this answers the questions, any queries please detail below

What remap did you go for ?
Ray West Tuning
£550

What were the improvements ?
Faster

What happened to fuel consumption ?
Same, although dropped when I put 17 inch bullets on to about 45 mpg

What effect did it have on your insurance ?
Pass

Any resale experiences ?
Nope, someone unknowingly got a very faster ONE D

What was the cost ?
As above

Definitely recommend an engine re-map over a simple plug and play chip, Ray claimed my car was about 105bhp, certainly did shift.
Have always wondered though what would happen when it comes to MOT time, what with the extra smoke belting out?

I have now MTHed my OneD (03). A lot more grunt, 0-60 sub 10sec, possibly sub 9. Only had 20 miles to play with it, so will see how it fares this weekend on a 600 mile trip to the lakes for sisters wedding. Missus is very unimpressed with the idea of me fettling with the car, but in the end, i pay the bills, the insurance et al and do 90% of the miles.

Will update this post next week

Nice one. The CooperD didn't feel any faster than mine, but then I did have a passenger in the car, and a passenger in mine dulls the response somewhat, let me know how you go on. Did you do it yourself or at a dealers?

Nice one, 115bhp is impressive, and the mileage, does it smoke a bit with the tunit chip on?not much loss with 107bhp over the derv docs remap!!!

You sure the police stopped you because it was smoking or that they couldn't believe a diesel MINI was doing 135mph?

When's the MOT due?
Least you can turn it off when you want, mine always smoked whenever with West Tuning.
