Engine noise Have just has a Inspection II service on my Mini One D at a BMW dealer and since getting the car back I have noticed that the engine seem to be noisier... When I was on the motorway at the weekend I noticed an extra level of sound under acceleration, it has always made a diesel like rattle but it is now louder... Any ideas? Not sure what oil they used but could it be due to a different oil? Wanted some possible ideas before calling them up. |

Its all in the gap I might be wrong chaps but I think they do the cam follower adjustments on this inspection. To compensate for wear they need to be periodically adjusted every third service. Unlike most modern engines the cam followers are not self adjusting, hence they need to be set manually. Obviously if the feeler guages have been incorrectly applied, one gets a rather loud knocking noise due to the excessive gap. |
