I was wondering at idle my mini one d 91k miles 05 plate idles at 1k, even when warmed up sitting in traffic it hovvers around 900 - 1k. this seems quite high to me having own a peugeot 206 1.4 hdi which was very low reving and other larger engined petrol cars this little mini seems to idle higher then any of the others.
can someone confirm if this is correct or what needs to be looked at, still got 12k miles till next service but going to get oil and filter done next month.
Does the idle drop when the engine warms? Higher idle when cold is normal on MINIs (at least I know it is on petrol versions) my 02 petrol cooper idles about 1100 when cold but drops down to 800 after about 3-5 minutes
hi it does not drop after its warmed up, even when temp gauge is at halfway point, still idles at 1000rpm. car does not overheat or sound strange, but ideeling at 1k must be using fuel,
had it serviced new air filter , oil filter and 5w 30 fully styn oil, still the same.
do they idle at this level normally or do I need to get it checked out?
It may be that your idle control valve is dirty. I believe cleaning the valve is easy enough though I've never done it myself. A search on here should bring up some results
My 2002 petrol Cooper S idles at 900 - 1000 rpm most of the time. I thought this was higher than other cars I've owned but come to accept it as normal. Doesn't seem to be doing any harm..
