2006 1.4 Mini One D Idle Knocking Noise Just purchased.

Hello,

My wife purchased her first Mini today. She has always wanted one.
Its a 1.4 2006 Mini One Diesel with 130K km on the clock. 6 gears.
The car drives like a dream I took it for a spin tonight, there is just one thing I am concerned about. When the car is in idle there is a loud knocking noise. This goes away if the clutch is slightly released. As soon the car starts to accelerate this noise is gone, plenty of power in the car so I think the engine in fine. I'm no car expert though.

Is this just the nature of the car for its age or is there a possible fault with it.
We bought from a dealer, not Mini, and the car has a 3 month guarantee and was serviced today. I'm concerned that this noise might be a sign of an expensive repair down the road. I've seen posts about clutch chatter but nothing to definitively say its a fault or not.

The noise isn't as bad when listening outside the car.

My own car (2002 Peugeot 406) is diesel as well and can be noisy too when idling but it doesn't have the horrible kocking sound.

Look forward to your comments and advice regarding this.

- Chris.
