Disappointing really... when there are small diesels around such as the Ibiza TDi 130/150 which are serious performance cars as well as being economical.

I was interested, but am not now!

I love the black grille on the yellow car. Though the article says it will feature enlarged air intakes, I can't see a change in the grille size from the photos. I wonder if the grilles will start jumping off the shelves for custom jobs?

Is that a new yellow too? or is it just creative photography/my monitor? It looks more vibrant than the current yellow.

The lower intake looks bigger and more square.

Funny how it's got S side skirts. I wonder if these will make it onto all models.

Impressive fuel consumption if that's what you're after.

It's the current yello, the press shots tend to 'yellow it up'.

The lower intake does appear more square.

I'd like some engine shots too, in a nerdy kind of way.

Does anybody know if there are any plans to bring a diesel MINI to the US eventually?

No mention of it on the MINI USA press information.

If so, it would be the VW diesel Rabbit experience all over again. I used to call it "purchase order" accelleration: You know, you put in a purchase order and wait forever for a response.

Once when I went in for service, after ascertaining I had a diesel, the service manager said, "Funny, you don't look like a diesel owner." I said, "Why?" He said, "Well, you don't have the permanent bruise in your forhead from hitting the rear-view mirror when the air conditioner kicks in. We call it 'Hitting the big marshmallow.'" You know it's bad when your service manager kids you about your car. Between the D. Rabbit and a baseline Honda Civic, I'm about over under-powered vehicles. I like to be able to solve some of my traffic problems by doing something other than slowing down...

The Golf TDI is 12.5s to 60MPH (so probably over 13s to 62MPH) so while the MINI ONE D is no rocket, it is on par with other small diesels. I don't know how they get so little power out of a common-rail, direct-injection turbo-diesel but the Golf's 1.9L only gets 90HP or 47HP/L compared to 53HP/L for the MINI/Yaris 1.4L. With all that torque (more than the NA gas but less than the FI gas) I'm surprised it doesn't get better 0-60 numbers but they run out of steam pretty fast -- good for tractors though. Since both the Golf and MINI diesel engines are in the same sort of performance class I bet the MINI ONE D could be brought over here even with our awful sulphur diesel fuel. The high performance diesels won't run over here until they get the cleaner stuff in the pumps.

Is that a polite way of saying 'the elderly'?

It does indeed, if MPG and value is your thing, it's a stylish diesel anyway.

Thumbs up Re: ALL the details you could want (6 speed, and more!)...

Interesting to see that they have a modified 6 speed Getrag "S" gearbox fitted.

Does that mean that all future models of the One and Cooper will be using the Getrag 6 rather than that as-robust-as-egg-shell useless modified Rover 5 speed item in the MINI at the moment?
