Coilovers?

i cant decide whether to go for eibach springs or spax RSX coilovers, i like the idea of great handling with coilovers but i also do quite a few miles on the ridiculously bumpy Cumbrian roads and dont want my car skipping all over the road. i dont want to go too low, only about 20mm. if i set the coilovers quite soft will this give me the compromise of handling and comfort i am looking for?

Have a word with Nick at Lohen and he will be able to help. He runs a mini1 with coilovers and will be able to recommend the best option for you. I am considering them on my MCSC and am concerned at the impact they will have on day to day ride quality. Love to try them though and see how I get on.

Day to day ride quality will of course be harder, but not massively so.

You'll actually find that in a lot of conditions and on a lot of surfaces, the ride is "better" as it's more composed and less likely to "jump" around on bumps etc. It just feels more positive and a much sharper car, while not being excessively stiff (depending on which ones you get, and their setting, of course).

At 20mm, you shouldn't scrape much, as this is much higher than even most lowering springs.

What do you want to achieve from the coilovers?

i am planning on doing a few track days this year so the coilovers will be a better alternative to prings as i can adjust damping and ride height, the distance i drive will probably reduct this year too so i can set them up more for performance than comfort when that happens

Use to have the eibachs, now on spax.

I was happy with the eibachs but cause i messed with the car so much, i had to get the coilovers because it was 2 soft and the car was bottoming out.

Eibach springs or Eibach coilovers?

How do you mean the Eibachs were too soft and your car was bottoming out (and it doesn't do this on the Spax)?

springs.

It was bottoming out, scraping. My car has wider archs and the wheels spaced so because the back end was bounching, the metal was cutting into the tyre, not a good combination.

The spax i have now is on a firm setting, car doesnt bounce around any more and ive also managed to fit even wider tyres..225s...all good.

TEIN do a coilover kit for the mini but teins are quite firm, even for coilovers! they are designed for the smooth japanese roads not the shockingly bad uk roads!
