I don't believe the later Getrag 'box is a straight swap for the earlier unit, different drive shafts etc required, not positive tho'.

pm me.

Also, as long as the gearbox is pre July 2004, the pre facelift, it will fit.

Mini Gearbox
My son owns a 53 mini one (5 years old). After 40,000 odd miles the gearbox has gone and requires replacing. I understand that the pre 04 models were fitted with an old Rover gearbox and that there is a history of problems with it. BMW are so far refusing to replace it on a goodwill basis and therefore it is likely that I will have to take them to court if an agreement cannot be reached. I therefore need to compile as much evidence as I can that this gearbox is flawed and also require experts in the field to testify to this. I would like to hear from anyone therefore who has experienced similar problems.

Hi there mate, I had this. I've got a 53 One too (February 2004 to be precise) and 11 days out of the Mini Approved Used 1 Year Warranty, January this year my gearbox went at just gone 40k.

Where I explained a little in personal thread (with pictures) - HERE

And the actual details of the whole event!! - HERE

Hope this helps, let me know if you need to know any more

Same - Mini One 2001 (51 plate) went at 60k - i know this isn't as low as yours but 60k for a gearbox in a BMW!! Crazy! You pay the price for the mini thinking that it will be reliable and hardy but everyone seems to be having problems with the gearboxes and steering pumps and MINI seem to be doing nothing about it
