Last time my car was in to the dealers fix the wind screen as it had to be refitted.
This time its going in for its gear box to be looked at. As some times when i put it in R it clunks and grinds the gears. It some times does it on other gears. It also some times has the tendency of slipping out of gear or not going in to gear. I mgith have a long wait on friday sitting in the dealers .
It seems to be a common thing.. I struggle to get mine into R, but to prevent damage to the clutch plate/Gearbox just look at it and you can tell when its in fully... I seriously doubt unless you're getting serious problems, its worth taking it in...
When I first got the ONE I was told try popping it back into a forward gear and then try again and engage Reverse...
I had probs with reverse on my old R53 (I presume this is the model you're referring to!) and i found that if you hold the clutch down for a couple of seconds before engaging reverse the grinding did'nt happen....
Also make sure that your car is at a complete stop, and if that doesnt work, after trying the gears, try knocking it into Neutral, lift ya foot off the clutch and try again...
I used to have a similar problem on my 52 plate Cooper (R50 so Midland gearbox instead of Getrag). Reverse wouldn't engage properly resulting in crunching and frustration. I now tend to change to first gear and then reverse as this usually works first time in allowing reverse to fully engage (you feel should two clicks as the gear lever moves and locks into place). If this doesn't work, I find double de-clutching works.
A lot of people do get confuddled, which is why I try to avoid using the internal R codes where possible as it leads to a fair amount of confusion. Confusion of the worst kind, as people don't even realise they're confused! Especially with the way the S had it's own code in the 1st gen, but not 2nd.
I find that when I slot the stick into gears sometimes it grinds and sometimes it doesn't. I'd really like to know how to do it so that it slips in smoothly. This is mostly from 1st to 2nd though; my MINI's an 06 Cooper. Never had a problem with any other gears crunching, reverse is always fine.
i got told the same as west9 if it dont got in revise 1st time round try going in 1st then back to revirse as ur moving across the gearbox u then find where the problem lies it is when u first put it in or sometimes try bringing ur clutch out slowly but still puling back into revise works a treet for me no grinind noise any more
The dealer could not se any thing wrong with it. To be honest i dout they Evan looked at it. If i try to skip gears like 2 - 4 th it wont go in properly it goes in a gap next to 4th and R Its going in again tomorrow
This time they might fix the Little ring round the handbrake whats been broken since i got the car and its all ready been in 2 times for it to be fixed and they still have not done it.
Btw is the car supose to pull to the left ? as its only just started to do it ? Should i get it re tracked ?
