Which gearbox do I have

I have 53 plate mini one.

Its under warranty as I brought from dealer 9 months ago, the gearbox is a little ropey and I was wandering if its worth a trip to the dealer to ask if he will look at it, with the intention of trying to get a new one out of them.

I think this will be a lot easier if its a midland one as these are well known for not being so good.

So back to my orginal question, which gearbox will this have?

you have got the midlands gearbox. You might as well let your dealer have a look at it.

The change to Getrag didn't take place until July 2004.

Oh by the way, the midland unit is naturally noisy with whirrs and clunks being normal sounds.

When you say "it's a little ropey", in what way?

How many miles has your One done?

I had Midlands 'box on my last MINI and it worked perfectly up until I traded it in at 32,750 miles; no noises at all and it worked fine. It was lighter to use than the Getrag unit and selecting reverse was a lot easier, although (if I'm being really fussy) it was getting a little bit vague towards the end and didn't like to be hurried.

To look at a replacement 'box you are going to need a pretty specific and terminal issue with it and you would only wind up with an exchange Midlands 'box (i.e a refurbished failed unit from someone elses MINI).

Tigger.
