central locking fault and window wont go down on passenger side - please help??

Hello

I have a mini one, 51 reg. I have started a new thread as I have looked at other threads in the faults section and can see that people have experienced similar issues to me but the advice given in those threads hasnt helped unfortunately... hence the new thread....

1) Window wont wind down on passenger side
About six months ago, the window on passenger side stopped working (when I moved the window toggle, it wouldntmove up or down but thankfully it was already all the way up so not that problematic). Howev er one day, when a passenger got in that side, they slammed the door too hard using the handle inside the car, the window didnt drop at all and slammed against the outer side of the car door. I took it to the dealers to get the window fixed - they told me it needed a new motor and that would sort the problem out. I said I would think about it (as the cost of a new motor put me off) and got back in my car to find that the window was working again...... so forgot all about it

However about a month ago, a passenger slammed the car door and the whole problem started again... Took it back to dealer today and they are still telling me it is because it needs a new motor which is £200.....

2) Central locking wont work on passenger side
On top of that, my central locking seems to be going a bit wonky. I normally centrally lock the car when it is moving and to unlock the car, you can either move the toggle again to unlock the car or open the car handle twice to open the door.

When my mum was in the car about a month ago, she went to unlock the passenger car door by opening it twice using the inside handle..... but I didnt realise and at the same time, I touched the central locking toggle in the car.

Since then, the lock on the passenger side will not work using the key remote or the central lock toggle ..... my remote now only opens driver side and I then have to get in the drivers side and open the passenger side by twice opening the passenger handle in the inside of the car. Gets very annoying when you have lots of shopping and want to put it on passenger side etc.....

When I now try the central lock toggle in car, it sounds like the lock is clicking but something is failing to engage (but only on passenger side)..... the central locking toggle will still lock and unlock the driver side though....

The passenger door then remains in the unlocked position until I come again to use my remote (once I am outside the car) and it will then lock (both driver and passenger side)...... ???!

The dealer tells me I need a new door lock and operating rod...... (£176)

I have told him not to progress with the work (due to the expense) and instead looked at this forum for advice. On previous threads, people have advised the fonzie fix (a sharp bang under the speaker!) and opening the door and just before shutting the door, touching the central lock toggle at same time as door closes to see if it reengages anything... have tried all these but to no avail!

So AM I resigned to having to fork out £400 to get this problem fixed......has anyone else has had same problems???

And do you think a new motor and new door lock will solve the problem. I would hate to spend all that money to find that it wont solve the problem......

Thanks!

Hi!I had the same,(only different) problem with the passenger side of my 05 Cooper. Not long after I had it my daughter went to let herself out of the pasenger side using the handle ,and at the same time I flipped up the unlocking knob...and from there on in no passenger could let themselves out on that side. The door would unlock as normal from the outside and the central locking was fine.It went back to the dealers who diagnosed a faulty lock and replaced it under warranty......BUT now when you go to open the passengerside window ,it drops the first third fine and then there is a horrible grating noise of glass against metal before it then drops the rest of the way fine.It goes up no probs. It will have to go in again but I can only think when they removed the door panel to replace the lock somethingelse got misplaced along the way!
