Talking 40,000 Miles in my One

So my Mini ONE has just clocked up 40,000 miles, and whilst taking a look down memory lane I realised how far my mini has come along! Some of the pictures i didn’t take when i put the modifications on so the car is fairly dirty (shameful i know) but anyways here is a little review, hope you like it;

So the day i got, i was very fortunate to get it from new, One in Pure Silver with the salt pack i believe, 15” hubs....i forgot to take any photos of the interior/engine bay but i did take some a few thousand miles in so they’re a bit grubby

The first thing i did was to get some shark gill side vents on it..... i bought these before i got the car, i was only 16

Then came some chrome wing mirror caps

One of my favourite and subtle additions to the exterior came with the Oricari pollen vents, not too many people notice the, or have them but i think they’re banging

Then i got some wheels for cost price, favour/friend all that kind of nonsense...these were some Team Dynamic k2’s......19”...very big n very uncomfortable but plenty of grip and it got me rid of my hubcaps!

Then i got a clear 3rd brake light and swapped my side vents so they were just clear lens, no chrome shark gill

And then the inevitable happened
I crashed....

There is of course a story behind that but maybe leave that for another day.....
I then painted my wheels anthracite...........huge improvement, took some of the height out of the car

Then i got my bluefin superchip.....value for money the second best thing i ever bought

After making it a little racier, the bug hit me n i couldn’t stop...OMP upper n lower strut braces (the BEST modification for your money i reckon) eibach lowering springs and a milltek cat-back exhaust

Lohen did an incredible job of lining the exhaust up properly...when it got warm n expanded it sat completely flush with the rear bumper....awesome!
Got an aerokit spoiler sorted aswell....

Got some halo sidelights

(like that photo, long marston airfield)
Then i wanted to make my car a little more throaty so got myself an HKS induction kit (n some denso iridium spark plugs don’t think they help noise tho )....at the time(this photo) i had to go and get a custom pipe made for me which looked like crap but then vecchio engineering sorted me out with a fitted one n ended up looking schweeet! Its quite noisy when u give it the beans but poodling around it aint chavy, well at least i think so!

I then went to the mini day at Shakespeare county raceway, stratford-upon-avon, tested my car on the drag strip, posted a 16.428 which i was pretty chuffed with....
But after i saw my car in modern mini magazine (cos it was the fastest One/cooper of the day) i had to do something to the exterior, i had my hubcaps on cos my wheels were being painted black and i was horrified to see it in there looking as it was! Unfortunately about 5 days after i got my wheels back i was on a country lane and going round a corner, lorry came round on my side of the road, had no option but to pile up the verge into a hedge (or hit the lorry) i hit a stone post n knackered my alloy (and a few other things) the lorry driver then proceed to drive away.....which was nice..........
So with my hubcaps back on i spent all the money i had been saving for ages on.................an aerokit.........nice!

A few hundred miles later my brakes packed in....no pads left, drove very tentatively to Lohen along with my student overdraft and hooked myself up with, brembo big brake kit. These brakes don’t fit inside ur standard 15” wheels so i had to also get some wheels off of ebay......they’re not ideal but they were cheap and with some 12mm spacers, fitted nicely!

I was very happy with the result, so....i took the bonnet lining off

Finally i got some black inserts for around the fogs

Took it for a blast at Long marston airfield to help it turn 40,000 miles

(I was planning on taking some more pictures of the car as it is now but someone kicked my wing mirror off day before yesterday, so im very sad as it is currently stuck on with masking tape!)
In case you didn’t notice i haven’t done anything to the interior.........i would love some JCW leather seats...but coilovers are a priority...when i get the money......as for ICE im not bothered...yet!
Ian

Nice ONE.

One small thing though... that bonnet lining is supposed to protect the bonnet paint from the heat of the engine. By removing it and its protection, you might find your bonnet paint deteriorates above the engine (both underneath and on top of the bonnet).

It looks great with the bonnet up, but I'm betting most people will look at it with the bonnet down - and resprays are expensive. I think I might put that heat shield back on if I were you.

All the best,
Andrew.
