Flickering/no temperature output on tach (single and dual counter)

Hello,

Looking for some advice, I've had an intermittent problem for the last few years where the temp would occasionally flicker, then look like the matrix code, then disappear, then reappear and repeat... now recently its stopped completely and I haven't seen it for a while!

It basically use to look like this guys here:
The LEDs stay lit just no output, I thought it might have been the outside temp sensor but when I checked the 7.2 on the speedo hidden menu, it reads the temp just fine.

I've replaced the rev counter with a dual rev/speedo purchased from ebay and it works fine except the temp doesn't appear on the new one, and the LED backlight doen't come on!

Does anyone have any advice before I start pulling things apart and replacing one by one?

So far I'm guessing temp sensor or dodgy cable between tach and speedo, or I've got super unlucky and bought a cluster with a dodgy temp lcd.... any other thoughts or advice?

Cheers!
Sam

In case anyone reads this thread with the same issue...

Do the following.

1. Check temp sensor. Hidden menu 7.2 on speedo - should return the temperature in C, if you see -40 you have a dodgy sensor.

2. Reseat the cable in the back of the rev counter and speedo (connected to the smaller plug on back of speedo - 12pin?)

3.1 If you bought a dual speedo/rev make sure it has a bloody LCD! I learnt after opening it up the LCD was only on the speedo side, on the REV the LCD has 2 LEDs in its place (boot/bonnet sensor and something else?). Newer models should have dual LCD.

3.2 Replace the single rev counter, its goosed!
