Gear knob position

Hi,

A minor issue but annoying!

My used mini gear knob faces an unusual angle. Instead of the H gate image on the knob being 12 to 6 o'clock it's at 10 to, to 20 past position, ie facing the driver on a RHD car.

Googing others of the same age it appears to be standard knob (5 speed) R50 03 plate 1.6 one.

Note the above is not my car but the googled knob.

The knob comes of very easily if I pull it in an upwards direction but it will only go back on with the H gate image facing the wrong direction.

I've tried turning the top of the knob while holding the bottom to see if the image has somehow rotated over the years bu it doesn't appear to move independently of the whole unit.

Could the metal lever have be fix incorrectly in the past?

What could be the issue?

Also what could be causing the knob to come of so easily? (Perhaps glue it on?)

thanks

Turns out a previous owner had glued the gate image at the wrong angle. Guess it must have come loose previously.

Good you got it sorted.
I was going to say, in the manual it says when removing the knob pull straight upwards and dont try to twist it, which would be the most sensible way I guess.
It says if you try to twist the knob it can bend the locating key so I was thinking someone may have tried to do this in the past, bent the key and hence the knob is now twisted.
