Hi

I've just picked up a 2001 R50 today and I have a few questions:

Really no timing belt? (Great!)

It's done 50k and looks like it's been serviced a lot for the first 35k then not at all. I will obviously get it serviced now... I use a local village garage, does it need special oil?

There is a bit of ticking from the engine (warm) is this tappets? Should I get this fixed do you think?

I can't get the rear windscreen washer to work, is this a common issue with early models?

any help, very much appreciated.

Boleigh

hello Boleigh
I took over my GFs old 51 reg One as well and had similar issues.

I can tell you that the rear washer can be a simple fix.
you need to remove the plastic cap at the bottom of the wiper arm and clean its pipe which has a tendency to get filled up with crap!

In regards to the engine noise, a slight ticking is normal.
Change the oil with some decent oil in and replace the oli filter as well on a couple of short intervals to make sure there is no grime left in the oil system.

Mine has just gone over 64k miles and going strong.

Hope you like yours

Thank you and sorry

Thank you for replying. I'm sorry I totally missed this. I'm struggling with this forum set-up to find replies to threads etc!

Anyway thanks. I've changed all the fluids, put in some proper oil, had the suspension checked out and am going to change the oil again soon - it's already looking dirty. Oh and I've re-mapped it! (really worth it it's a scream).

Make sure you change the gearbox oil if you want the Rover Midland gearbox to last....2 litres of MTF94 is required.
