United-Kingdom transmission plug crush washers

2003 Mini One R50 1.6 petrol with the "Midlands" 5 speed box.

Hi,

Going to change the transmission oil soon and just wanted to check if I should or need to replace the crush washers on the fill and drain plugs or can I reuse them?

Unable to find anyone that sells them in the UK any ideas?

I guess if I knew the Internal & Outer Diameter & Thickness I could order of fleabay.

The car has done 140k but as the new owner I cannot ascertain if the box has ever been changed. From what I've read it seems unlikely that it would still be the original box????? If it is and nobody has ever replaced the transmission oil then I guess it's going to be very thin and I should expect lots of metal on the magnetic plug.

As I intend to do this myself is it going to any easier if I remove the NS front wheel or am I just best getting enough height to get to the plugs from underneath?

Shame Kwik Fit won't do this sort of job!

BTW I have read this item on the task:

The washers should be replaced and not reused otherwise you risked getting a leak.
Get it from the dealer I would think?
Parts list says it an M14 x 1.5 threaded plug part number 7513050 and is listed with its washer as a unit, washer not listed as separate item, but I suppose it must be in reality.

Plenty of sump crush washer suppliers on line if you Google, seem expensive for what they are though.

As said, washers should always be replaced.

On a similar note, I really can't believe the R53 (and probably facelift One/Cooper?) fill & drain plugs don't have any washers at all

Hi

Thanks for the info

I saw the washers on ebay but cannot establish the correct size before taking the old plugs out?

Dismantling instructions state a 17mm nut but when ordering don't I need to know Internal & Outer Diameter & Thickness of the plug thread?

Has anyone got a broken midlands gearbox in their garage that would possibly give me the crush washer sizing?

Thanks
