United-Kingdom Had new mini sinve March 1st

Lo people,
I collected my Mini One on march 1st 2003 the day the plates came out from the bmw mini factory near Oxford where all the minis in the world are built ;o (also got a discount as my brother is a valued empolyee at BMW hq in Bracknell , Berks.
Having chosen jet black with the chrome line exterior (the only option in my opinion regardless of having to keep the little beast clean) I jumped in it after my handover , put cd in player and followed my bro's 330 (which I drove to the factory ) out of the car park. I was in love b4 I even got to the 1st set of lights , which arent far , as she handles like a dream and the stereo turns up resonably well so off I headed into the countryside with a wide grin on my face. Over a month later i still glance back at it everytime i park and think what a complete bargain I have got for my hard earned cash. Well done BMW and all you who have purchased this fun liitle car - even if it has not got room in the back - i sit in the front so don't give a damn

Oh yeah forgot that the chrome tail pipe makes such a difference to the overall look (and my leather steering wheel adds to the sensitvity)

glad ur enjoying your car damian. picked mine up same time.im having some fab fun with roundabouts. might get mine chipped next week.

Anyway can i just ask you for a BIG favour, could you check your vin plate to see when your car was built. it's where you fill ur windscreen fluid. And also, do have the brake pad wear sensor on ur car?

mine says it was built in January, which is strange because my salesman said cars are built two weeks before delivery. and also mine hasn't got the sensor. can you confirm yours is the same? This information is important to me as i'm trying to figure something out. cheers

Hello mate , I will check vin plate for you tomrrow and post here BMW have like a lead time of about 3 months when I ordered mine - your Jan date could be something to do with that - only guessing tho.

Chunky - just checked my car it is FEb 03 - however only the registration date effects the residual value of the car. I also spoke with my brother who said that dealerships order mini's in advance as everyone is garanteed to be sold (of course) so unless you spec order it you are unlikely to get a car with the same month as collection date on vin plate. I was lucky in the fact that I ordered mine direct hence the Feb 03 platte. Hope that is of some help.

Damian - i hope you dont mind me asking - but what discount did you get on your order - My brother also works for BMW at its holding yard in Thorne, South Yorkshire and I am going to order my next cooper through him at a discount also. He is not too sure what the discount is - he says the discount(percentage saving) you get on MINI's is less than it is on other BMW's. If you would rather not say, I understand (I am just curious and I will find out when I eventually place my order anyway).

Rather not say tbh - it wasn't bad tho - your bro should be able to find out for you. I was of the understanding that the family discount for cars from BMW is same no matter what model etc Just go buy 1 m8 NOW!!!!!!

No problem - I had to ask

I only got mine in January 2003 (from a dealer - my brother had only been with BMW for 4 months when I ordered and couldnt wait to order one through him - even though it would only have been a few months to wait) so I want to keep mine a few months yet (only just run it in). I am waiting to see if any new colours come out (rumours of a few more being available around September).

The brake pad warning light was fitted to cars built week 10 March. Mine has it. The additional bits of chrome if chrome option specified, also supplied week 10. Got it too for the old price plus the second blip key at no additional cost
