'Must haves' on the options list

Hi All

Had mini's for years (still got 4 of them) but was undecided about the new MINI. Finally got round to having a test drive and we were very taken with the car, so we're looking at buying a One towards the end of the year.

Considering one in blue with the Salt pack, CD changer and heater mirrors/washers.

Are there any other must haves on the options list? I was considering the Xenon headlamps but am not sure of they're worth the expense. We like the look of the standard One so we're not fussed about trim, wheels and the like.

Any advice greatly appreciated

Cheers

United-Kingdom Must haves on a one.

You definetely need a cd changer /cd boost combo.
leather steering wheel - forget multifunction - nice but not worth it.

get sports seats - bargain at £170 and much more comfortable - i've done 14k in normal seats and 8k in sport ones and the sport ones still feel miles better.

and defintely get one of the aircon or sunroof combos to add to resale value - personally sunroof wins for me.

would also consider getting the best wheels you can afford as they greatly add to the visual appeal (even if you aren't fussy)

never had xenons so couldnt offer a sound opnion on that though they are damn expensive.

hope this helps

Highly recommend the MFSWheel, A/C, and the sun roof. I can no longer drive a car without radio/CD controls on the wheel. As for the sun roof, if you don't have one, you only have the two side windows that open and IMO, that is not enough. The A/C will help dry off the inside of the windows without heating up the interior in damp weather.

Get what ever you want.

Only MUST haves for me are SALT, alloys and CD player.

If you are on a budget just get what you want. With ALL options you'll lose more than you pay for them. A fully loaded ONE will be worth less in percentage terms than one with a few options. Some may make it easier to sell on in a private sale but a well looked after car and a "good" colour is more important.

Let us know what you order, good luck.

In my opinion, must haves for the One are:
TLC
Salt
Alloys
Aircon (either manual or auto), at least for those of us in the South of England!

Like KenL says, don't go overboard on options, as you'll never recover anything like what you paid on resale.

Cheers for all the replies. Certainly food for thought.

I think a trip back to the dealer is needed.

Thanks again

MINI options

I am in the motor trade, and from a re-sale point of view A/C or a Sunroof is a must. A/C is probably the best option to go for as most people want it now. Alloys would be a good option as well, they only cost about £300 and you will get most of that back come trade in time.I have got Xenons on mine and they are really good. Ia am not sure they are worth what they cost, but never the less they are good

Please explain what you mean by a "must"

Do you mean you won't take trade-ins that don't have a SR or AC? Does it mean you cannot sell a car without these items? Or can you get more than the original outlay for these items on a second hand car, in the case of the MINI £600 or £800 extra?

More importantly for us owners how much more will YOU offer for a trade in between two identical cars one with and one without? Say you're offered two one year old MINI ONE's with Alloys, SALT and 12k on the clock. One's got AC the other hasn't. How much would you offer for each against a 15K car being bought?

I wonder if there's a big difference between Scotland and down south? I've never once thought "I wish I had aircon" in a car I've been in up here. Personally I think it's really expensive (especially if you're not going to use it), uses power and fuel.

On the Xenon's, a courtesy S I had had them. I drove along a lot of back roads without lights at night. They didn't seem that much better than the standard (poor IMO MINI lights). Looked pretty groovy though, especially the way they turn on.

Thanks,
KenL

Ken, I am only talking from experience here(I sell Renaults) but in the past when I have had to price car without A/C or a sunroof the price is affected a great deal. An example was the other day, I took a MINI one in P/x against a Clio 172. I got the trade bible out (GLASS's guide!) and rang 5 dealers. All the dealers looked on the system and checked the spec of the car, and when they found out it did not have A/C or a sunroof 3 of them didn't want it. The other two dealers knocked £1000 of the guide price due to this.
When I have taken Renaults in P/x and sold them on our fourcourt, one of the first questions that I get asked is has it got A/C. If I say no most people ask which cars have.
Please be aware that I am not critising any one who has not got air con or a Sunroof, I know that everyone has different views. I am just trying to help

and this is the message coming from a dealer! so it looks like the most 'desirable' option on cars these days is the a/c. I'm just glad I ticked that box when I ordered my car!
