Moan/Rant (car damage)

Tuesday this week we decided to go take the MINI up to Scarborough/Whitby for a run.

Should've stayed in bed.

After 3 months of keeping the car almost as good as new, in one day we end up with a scuffed wheel trim, a dent from another car door in a car park and got gritted twice on the way back home.

Wheel trim was my fault, trying to park in a small space and not realising how high the kreb was. Did try to find a space in a car park but it was like a sunny bank holiday, never seen so many people and so much traffic.

The dent is really close to the fuel filler so I think it's going to be a real job to sort out. Done by a kid trying to stop himself falling out of his parents car. He didn't do it on purpose and they did apologise, but I'm still ******ed off about it.

The grit doesn't appear to have damaged the paint that much, but it's messed up the plastic trim around the bottom of the bumper and managed to get into the rad fins and every unreachable crevice in the engine bay.

Hmph

Happy new year

Just keep in mind that cars are meant to be enjoyed which requires actually taking them out in the real world were they'll get scuffed now and then. Consider a few blemishes as part of the character of a car and a sign you're using it, not leaving it in the garage and worshipping it. After the first couple, things get a lot easier. It's a hunk of steel - use it and and buy another.

Sickness, family, etc. are things worth worrying about.

I agree to an extent with you Mark, but people take pride in their belongings, especially their MINIs! I don't blame him for being upset, I would be. Agreed, there are more important things to worry about in life, but it's the damage to the car that we're talking about here.

A8P - you can most probably get the scuffed alloy sorted without a problem and for not too much money. Search around the forum and you'll find information from people that have had their alloys repaired. As for the dents - maybe get a few quotes and see whether it's worth getting done. If it's always going to stand out to you, then it may be worth getting sorted.

Thanks for the replys. I must admit I thought someone was calling me spoilt - but then I re-read

I agree cars are to be used but I do like to look after my stuff. We've sold our old Toyota Carina today cos we want to use the One and our old mini's all the time. I'd sooner pay to keep them on the road and in good repair, then spend money at an old (but reliable) banger just to avoid parking dents. Cannot believe how many times I could've sold that old car today. I priced it at £250 cos it only had 3 months tax/test on it and I had people almost throwing cash at me.

The wheel I can live with for now, and I checked for a dent, but not well enough so I'm ******ed off at myself - lesson to be learnt for me. I'll see what dentmaster can do with it.

Had a good day today - 2 minis on the road now, just the sportpack to MOT and we're sorted

Cheers

Neil
