2nd Annual Gas Mileage Contest and Poll - MINI One

In an attempt to take suggestions from last year, there are four separate polls and four separate threads for the 2nd Annual Gas Mileage Contest. This is so we can sort out real experience on the street in 2004. Here are the links:

We did not have near the participation as in 2003, and posted comments did not become lively or controversial as some were in 2003. Results and Winners from this year's contest are posted in each thread:

Poor show from us lot, sorry about that nonsequitur. I'll give you an average mpg next year based on miles per tank fill up.

We just need to do the Poll and Contest with better rules and promotion. How would you change it? What should the format be next year?

I thought it would be great fun to create an "Absolute Best Mileage in a MINI" contest with several categories. Fairings would be allowed (to make for fabulous and/or bizzare newspaper and magazine photos) in one of these categories. Another might be Downhill Runs (like my I-90 experiment from Snoqualmie Pass at 99.9mpg on the techometer).

What are your ideas now so we can think about them for the interim months? If we allowed fairings, then the rules would need to be set soon so that design and construction could go forward. We could open the Poll and Contest now with a close next year as a way to keep the energy flowing?

Maybe there could be two sections, those with computers and those without. Those without couldnt participate in the extreme tests but they could do an average mpg based on fill up, reset mileage, do a tank full then fill up again.
