Question Trade in Value??

Hi,

I hope some of you could give me some guidance on what trade in value is normal?

We own a Mini One in Indi Blue, have been looking to trade it in for a new One. On the various websites around they indicate a trade in for a base One of about £9200 to £9800 with our mileage. So reckon about £500 more with the options?

Just had a phone call from Williams Mini Rochdale (we bought it new from them) telling me the maximum trade in value is £8200 this month and will drop!!!! Are we being daft here, are we being ripped off or has the Mini values started to drop this much now?

The same dealer has a very similar non-metallic One with not as many options and higher mileage (27K) March 03 for £10,495, so think £9000+ trade in is not at all unreasonable but they seem pretty adamant that is all the One's are worth, at this rate the Mini will be going and not being replaced with another one.

I think £8500-9000 is about right for trade in. I think there is a thread on here by a Mini garage dude who explained the costs invloved with getting it onto the forecourt were over £1k and they would also like to make some profit.

I would try for £9000 and point out the other one for £10495 as an example. Alternatively, take an advert out in Autotrader and get c. £10k for it

totally agree, traded my last MCS and it went on the forecourt for about £1200 more than I got, then they had to reduce it further to get a sale

for future reference when discussing depreciation or value of cars, please see the link attached

Thanks for your advice,

After several trips around Mini dealers a maximum trade-in of between £8000 and £8200 was all we could get, or the same amounts to buy it cash!!. They all said that Mini values are dropping the One's are supposedly dropping by £175-£200 per month since April 05 and used Mini's on the forecourts are having to have their prices dropped as well.

Whilst Mini's are still a relatively good buy, we decided to look elsewhere, with a baby on the way my wife fancied a five door car and no hassle with pushchairs/babyseats etc...

So it's been marvelous owning a Mini but it is going to be replaced by a Vauxhall Corsa SXi 5 door (I know that sounds like blasphemy) but 0% finance, £8750 trade in, free insurance and £70 per month less to pay out swung it for us, especially the threat by one Mini dealer of dropping the trade-in by £150 per week we delayed ordering (don't need that attitude from a certain Mini dealer in Lancashire).

We've enjoyed looking at the Mini2 website and will have always have a soft spot for the Mini, one day we may return to the fold when the five door Mini arrives (???).

Carl
