Help.....

Recently been getting annoyed with the bouncy ride in my 2001 Cooper with chili pack. Now i understand that back then SS+ came with the chili pack, and that the early suspension was the roughest of the lot.

Also to change the suspension the early cars have different top mounts which would need to be changed for the later type mounts that came out with the cooper s, however a recall was also put out and looking at the below pictures i think my top mounts may have been swapped to the later type. Im hoping to go down the koni FSD route.

2001

Later car

Now ive been and took some pics of my cars top mount it looks more like the later cars picture but without the plastic cover.

Does anyone else agree with that? Can i ask someone with a later car to have a look at theirs to see if its the same design as what ive got on my car.

The part number on the struts are
Right side - 3131-6759422
Left side - 3131-6759421

Theyve got cooper s written on them which leads me to beleive these are the wrong shocks for my cooper....

Can anyone check these part numbers for me?

Thanks for that, that site looks quite handy to me, ive had a quick look through and cant find that part number anywhere.

But surely the shock absorbers on my cooper should not say cooper s should they? And if they do that would mean i have the later type suspension which i can fit Koni FSD suspension to?

SS+ for a Cooper is Cooper S suspension...

And yes early Chilli pack coopers included SS+ as standard and it is bumpy! (Like mine!)

Your top mounts look like the later type to me. With regard to suspension, what drop are you trying to achieve? I would point you in the direction Koni adjustable's with Eibach springs, probably the best lowered ride available IMO.

Im not looking to drop the car just sort out the ride quality, its rubbish on my car. I seem to hit a bump and then the car shoots me upwards, was doing 60ish on a straight road it was soo rough its felt unsafe, i wasnt going too fast as i was keeping up with the flow of traffic. Ive read that koni fsd shocks help so was hoping to fit them. But need to confirm i have the later mounts as thats whats needed to fit them.
