lowering a 8 year old mini??

hello to all the mini2 people out there!!

i want to get rid of the horred gap in the arch i have got 18" wheels on and want to keep them realy ive seen the eibach 30mm lowering springs but is it safe to be lowering it when its 8 years old will the shocks take the strain???

will there be any rub on the archs and when turning on full lock

need as much info as pos because i dont no anything about this

ps i know theres coilovers but dont have that sort of money

You've been told why you don't want to put lowering springs on an 8 year old car.

Yes its doable. Would I do it? No. Simple reason - your dampers will be getting on, and whacking some stiffer springs with less compression space is going to ask a hell of a lot of them.. The only way to do it with springs would be to uprate the dampers at the same time (something such as Koni FSD), but it won't be a cheap way.

It comes to something when a vendor of lowering components has said they won't sell you them due to safety reasons... Surely thats enough to tell you that springs won't be a suitable option. Especially as its an every day car with big wheels.

Do it once, do it right and safely. Don't risk the safety of yourself and other road users.

^^ got it covered basically. Your shocks will probably be not at their best by then so chucking on some springs isnt the best idea...

if your dampers are on their way out why not try some koni dampers and springs - but the better option would be coils...

you mention money - possibly best to save to cover having to change out the dampers, should that be needed... 18s, springs and old dampers isnt going to be great - will look good mind but not drive well. plus your dampers would then wear even faster with springs on...

possibly best to save to change the suspension properly - springs arent the solution at the moment...

would need to know the wheel offset to see if rubbing may be an issue - i never had rubbing with ET52 and 30mm springs...

hey m.o.s yes ive been told but i just wanted to know if any one on hear has done this. safty does come 1st gess i need to start saving

id do struts too. it depends also how handy you are. if you are comfortable with doing the work yourself and dont mind having to take the suspension out when/if the oem struts go bad, then go for it. otherwise, id save up for struts and springs or coilovers to do it once.
