I want to lower my car roughly 40mm, i dont have the money for coilovers, so looking at getting springs. i have read a few different reviews about FK automotive springs, i live in an area that has quite good roads and not too worried about the ride. is there any other lowering springs for around £100 or cheaper? also if i lowered it 40mm should i get new shocks or will the stock ones be okay?
Don't see the need or point in lowering a Mini tbh. If your gonna lower it then its more than springs you need to adjust to get it to run properly so if your on a shoe string budget then don't waste your time!
Simple answer Ryan is Don't ! if you lower the car, you need to match the springs with the shocks as an absolute minimum or get a coil over kit. The maximum benefit you will have in lowering stops at around 15-20mm, any more then your looking at damage to your shock tower mounts, shock towers, drop links, camber to the wheels and alignment, CV joints as your rotating them at an extreme angle and other steering component stress. This will reduce the handling of the car and may cause mechanical failure resulting in an accident so consider the impact on other road users.
However, if you want to lower the car so you can display it on a stand at a car show and want to show a certain stance, slam it to the ground as its not being driven and stick it on a car trailer to take it home as it wont be safe or roadworthy to drive.
I enjoy a nice modified car like anyone and can appreciate a good job but half arsed efforts are dangerous and not many have attended life changing road accidents or fatalities and seeing a video is totally different than being on scene when a poorly modified or neglected vehicle has come to grief. Food for thought
