Question on Lowering

hi, i have ordered the ACSchnitzer springs to lower my car 30mm.

when i have had it lowered, does my car need a KDS-4Wheel alignment check as recommended? Has anybody else had it done after lowering? or shall i just get the tracking checked afterwards?

thanks
Minty

Minty, i had Eibachs installed, 30mm drop and did not have the tracking checked at all, I checked my tyres for wear every weekend and can confirm that no undue wear occurred on any tyre.
The springs made no difference to the handling either, but, if you want peace of mind you know what to do.

I did Hsport springs and rear sway bar.

My garage said drive it for a couple of weeks to bed things in then come back for an alignement. Which i did.

Peace of mind. cost of tires - whatever.

Minty, my springs are in and they get fitted on the 14th

I really want to see what they look like with 16" wheels and also see how it affects the handling, but what is KDS alignment and does it cost much? Can my dealer carry this out?

Cheers.

KDS is a full alignment check carried out by the dealer, and it normally takes 2 hours to complete...so can be quite expensive. then if it needs adjusting it can be a further 2 hours.
Check with your service dept for the price per hour.

Hi there Bonnie Scotland

By dropping the car by this much, what wheels are you useing, ie size, 17s / 18s and have you come across problems with sleeping police bumps in the road.

You might think that this is a stupid question, and sorry for taking this off topic, but i had exactly the same problem happen to me when i lowered my VW Beetle

Cheers Roman

I am running 18 inch wheels with 215 x 35 tyres, i got a little rub on the rears when coming across sharp dips in the road, i removed the little spats on the rears and it reduced it a lot, but not totally.
I have recently had a rear sway bar fitted and am just waiting to try it to see if the stiffer bar will cure it.

My Eibachs have lowered the car 20mm all round and yes I do have a slight problem with the sleeping policemen (front vallance touches slightly if driven to fast) I run the 7.5j 18" Hartge Classics with Pirelli P7000 215/35/18 and like Bonnie Scotland have not had to have the tracking altered.
Sorry off topic here but BS what swaybar have you fitted I have been after the Madness but no luck?

Minispares, it's a new design that is more adjustable, instead of the 2 bolt holes they have a new drop link system that attaches via a U-bolt.

I havn't tried it yet as the car is in mikeythemini's workshop haveing a bit of a face lift

No difference? This surprises me. I installed the H-Sports on my S about two weeks ago. I can honestly say that their was almost a quantuum leap in the handling ability of my car. I already have the Madness rear sway and had dropped from 17's to 16" wheels and running Bridgestone Pole Positions for tires.

Bonnie Scotland, I'm not disputing your claim. Just really surprised that you found little difference in the handling.

Oops , don't know what i was thinking there, in the words of many a public figure "I was misquoted", only thing here of course is that i typed it, doh!! I can only think i was trying to say that no undue tyre wear occured, ok, hole deep enough!
Anyway, i am happy to report that yes, the handling was improved significantly (i remember posting about it when it was done), most noticeable on roundabouts

Thanks CCM, without your diligence i might have misinformed the public and in this day and age of being politically correct we can't have that can we
