Has anybody had any experience with these new dampers ?
apparently they are revolutionary , in that they allow low speed comfort but they get firmer the harder you press on , sounds ideal !! it appears now possible to have both exellent ride quality and exellent handling

I have a Cooper S and I am planning to buy these also. I was tempted into buying the JCW suspension, but I think the ride would be to harsh.

But the ride on the Works suspension is better than that on the SS+.

The handling improves too, so not sure why you think it would be too harsh?

i haven't been on a Mini with JCW suspension so I really can't tell, just speaking from what I've read here and there. I think the JCW suspension is based on Bilstein shocks, and from my experience, these shock absorbers tend to be a bit harsh. Huge improvement in handling but lowering the compromise of comfort in every day driving.

I had the works suspension put in a few weeks ago. My old suspension was the early SS (not the SS+, and before MINI softened the suspensions across the range). The works suspension does make the car make more noise going over bumps, but the ride doesn't feel much harsher. I guess since there's more noise, there is less compliance in the suspension. But, it's not horribly harsh. On good pavement / highways, the ride with the works suspension is more comfortable than on close to worn out (77,000 miles) stock suspension parts.

BMW Car Magazine have had FSD shocks fitted to their Mini Cooper and provided a brief assessment of their capabilities. There was also an article about them a couple of months ago.

The FSD takes the 'edge' off the ride - you still feel the 'bumps' but the 'harshness' is gone. It doesn't isolate the 'road feel' like an early Cadillac, but it definitely improves the ride quality, and you can still feel your suspension working.

It's designed for the daily driver or commuter where the roads are less than ideal. If you feel 'beat up' after a long drive, the FSD's will make a difference. For use with stock springs.
