BMW clarification on warranty after modification (Official)

I don't know if this has been posted already so apologees if it has but I emailed BMW yesterday concerning the effect of modifying my Mini would be on the warranty (I specified the GTT220 kit). I was sent an email from BMW reading the following....

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Dear Mr Jones,

Thank you for your recent e-mail received October 19, 2005 in which you request clarification regarding your MINI Warranty.

Blah blah - personal details

If you were to make modifications to your MINI then your warranty would not be invalidated. However, we would reserve the right to reject any warranty claim where the repair or parts fitted outside of the network have been a contributing factor to this claim.

I hope this information is of assistance, if you have any further queries please do not hesitate to contact a member of the warranty team on the number below.

Yours sincerely,

Tom Grant

Pretty much what we all know but always good to have the official stance in writing!

Hope this helps.

It's pretty much what is the legal standard.

But you have to be careful about TLC - the booklet states that if the car is modified the TLC will be invalidated. That would be up to the dealer but we all know how pedantic they can be at times...

my mini is quite heavily modded in terms of what it was from standard, but i have kept my tlc serviceing in tact! as said, it all depends on how pedantic the dealer wants to be!! my dealer are great about mods
