 15% reduction pulley Hello all Im just away to get my Alta 15% reduction pulley fitted. However someone said to me the car will run poorly unless i get a re-map  i cannot afford a re-map just yet, so should i wait till i can afford the re-map before i put the pulley on, or should i go ahead and change the pulley? | Change the pulley! Stock maps are running too rich anyways. Go ahead and change it, a lot of people have 15%, 17%, and some 19% without the remap and it runs fine. | just been in contact with the boys at Lohen and they recomend a re-map for a few reasons: "2. Remap - not crucial and your car will operate fine without it, but it is not recommended over a long run as the following happens - smaller pulley equals more boost, more boost equals more air in the engine. More air in the engine makes the petrol/air mixture too lean (when there is too much air and not enough petrol), which will burn hotter in the cylinders. Over a longer period of time (especially if you drive hard, as it becomes more extreme higher up the rev range)it can cause damadge to the exhaust valves (it burns them) which could result in an engine reduild. So we feel it is our responsibility to recommend you to have a re-map (we dont really care who's as long as you have one)." | I too have the 15% without a re-map, and am very happy with it. In fact from what I have read and seen, with the re-map you do get a little more power, but less fuel econ. My econ went up about 2 to 3 mpg with the pulley. Mostly due to the increased torque you get with the pulley. So for me, the pulley is plenty. If you are just looking for a little bit extra, I too would just recomend the pulley. Thanx Cameron 2003 MCS Dark Silver/Black   |

| which is why I went for the 17% pulley and the air filter.....similar power for a lot less money....money I can use if there is ever a problem.......using standard map and been running the pulley for over 15000 kms with no issues so far. The car has done over 5700 kms in the last 14 months with only being serviced as per the indicator which has meant only 2 services so far. What a car....a total credit to the designers. |

| hey willie, I hope it wasn't me you got that from, cos if i said that, its crap. I won't run poorly by any means. The remap will make it better, and is better for the car get the pulley now mate, and worry about the remap a little later. It's advisable, but not necessary for a small period of time. Don't put it off for too long, especially since EssentialMINI in the UK is offering MTH remaps for 180 pounds. The remap doesn't only change the power/torque, but the throttle response and the traction control. It makes the MCS the car is should be. It even enhances the burbling out the back! Elie |

| The past weekend the local MINI club here had a tech session. The guys at Alta joined us and helped install their pulleys. We had it down to a science doing three cars at a time in an assembly line like fashion. The remap was never mentioned by them. The only time they even had to hook up a computer was to clear an error when we started one accidentally with the throttle body unplugged. Unfortunately I wasn't able to make it until last minute, so I didn't get a pulley installed. But everybody there seemed to notice the power difference right away! After talking to the Alta guys and hearing them talk about the MINI, I wouldn't hesitate to get a pulley myself. Chris |

| MINIAC - I would just be putting my standard S one back on if i could. Elie - no mate it was'nt anything you said it was someone else, and yeah i think i will go ahead and get it on and just get a re-map when i have a few other mods so its worth while.
