I'm not sure, but I suspect it is because MINI did a good job of writing the software for the engine-management computer, and it doesn't dump a pile of unburnable fuel into the combustion chambers when you decellerate. Refs: AEM website

If you open your tailgate....inside,look down at the back panel where there are two vents (one either side of the panel). In these vents are small peices of foam....remove the foam so the vents are completley empty....NOW you will here your exhaust better, even more so if you remove the parcel shelf aswell ![]() Top tip for today ![]() THE Legend who helps ALL MINI owners

I think/hope MiniService was joking. Are you serious about removing the foam? I was thinking about removing the foam just to make 'closing the door' easier - i.e. hoping the car becomes a little less air-tight..

Nope...never got popping with my MCS before the JCW upgrade either despite energetically backing off the throttle at high revs in 1st, 2nd and 3rd gears. I'm not sure that taking the foam out will make much difference (though I'll try it) as I can't hear overrun popping when in tunnels with the window down & sunroof open. I spoke to my local BMW service manager yesterday who said that surpisingly some customers (not many) have complained about the exhaust popping. He didn't have a ready answer for my query but said he'd research the topic & get back to me, and if necessary they'd check the car over. He also remarked that facelifted MCS models such as my car are designed to pop more than pre-05 models.

Yep your right some mini owners dont like the pop on overun at all. I personally love it and your pretty unlucky not to have got one that does it. It seems like its your car and nothing to do with the JCW conversion. Maybe it will take a while for the engine to get some miles on before it starts to create the pop thru the exhaust. Surely the pop on overun will increase as you run the miles in on your car? 2001 cooper (sold) ![]() 1995 Supra RZ-S TT auto in white.

I think where your going wrong is the high revs bit, try lifting off in 1st or 2nd gear at around 2-3k rpm and your sure to hear it then! also use the highest octance pump fuel you can, that seems to aid the popping a bit more
