163 or 170- how do i confirm??

I have an August 2004 Reg'd Mini Cooper S which according to my serial no. was built June 2004 in Oxford (Engine Code W11). How can i confirm which bhp model I have? My car has the "backfiring/ popping" exhaust characteristic of the 170bhp model but I know that July was when the official switch happenened- is it as clear cut as that though- June 30th= 163bhp vs July 1st =170bhp?? or is there a way to know!! Help!

do you have the revised interior trim? is the dash a 3 part or 5 part one?

smooth or non smooth chrome piece above the grille...smooth 170 grooved 163, do you have a red or white light in the middle of the rear bumper...red 170 white 163

in the car the dash board will have joins on it, the facelift 170bhp MINI is a 3 piece configuration, the older 163bhp is a 5 piece.

Also another tell tale sign is the position of the passenger airbag, if its on the top surface of the dash (as in the black texture surface facing up to the windscreen) then this is a facelifted MINI 170bhp.

Other tell tail signs are the rear lights, these differ as do the front lights.

I have the grooved chrome front piece, clear middle rear light and not 3 piece dash so looks like its a 163- well, at least i know where to go tuning from now re chips etc!! Cheers lads!!
