GRS Intercooler... DIY ? Yes or No ???

Hi,

Im looking to purchase the GRS intercooler for my MCS in the next couple of weeks and I wanted to get a feel for the size job it is ?. I have fitted springs and shockers in the past aswell as exhausts and induction kits. But I havent done any intercoolers. Mainly because I havent had a supercharger before .

So, anyone who has fitted one themselves could give me an idea of the tools need ? and an idea on how difficult it is that would be grand ?

Cheers!

it's no more than a 30 min job. you need a T25 torx screw and a beer Easiest mod to do on a MCS

take off the plastic IC cover, then undo the four clamps (two on either side of the IC). Take the IC out, and hold on to the rubber boots. Put the boots back on, one in its place and one pushed further past its normal resting position (this will make the install easier). the GRS IC into the boot that rests in its normal place, and then slip the other boot on to the IC, then and bolt down the IC (i think the GRS bolts down to the inlet manifold somehow, right?). Put the clamps back on, tighten the screws, and you're done.

I'm not sure what the GRS's air diverter looks like, but i'm fairly sure that'd be a simple job. I can find out for you if you'd like?

Cheers etalj.

Sounds like its just plug and play

I noticed you have the Alta induction kit from your signature, is there any interference between the two in terms of the size of both units ?

A suggestion. The boots will probably be full of oil. Remove and clean them before reassembly.

There is no problem with the Alta and the GRS. I ran the Alta with my GRS for months before changing CAI kits.

If you can do the other stuff, the IC is a walk in the park.

Simply unscrew the IC cover, undo and remove the clamps, remove the boots/IC. Undo the rear mount for the IC, remove, and replace the bolt, undo the front mount and remove it. Slot the GRS in, bolt her down, and she's ready to do.

The diverter, its a matter of a couple of screws and nuts - so simple I don't need to explain it to be honest, you'll see it once you look at it.

No problems at all with the Alta + GRS combo.

Also not, Grahams instructions are *REALLY* good and have full pics, so you have even less reason to worry .

I hope it's alright i use your topic for a question?

What are the best - GRS or GTT intercooler. I'm not sure which one to pick.
Have heard they are the two best - but which one are actually THE best?

GRS by far. I've compared the two side by side, the GRS is a much nicer piece of kit, looks a hell of a lot better than the GTT, has a much nicer diverter setup, and is actually bolted in place like the stock IC so it doesn't rattle like the GTT does, which just floats around.

The alta CAI doesn't interfere at all with larger ICs (even tho i don't own a larger IC, i'm saving up for a M7 DFIC).

The IC is extremely easy to take off and put on, i can't think of any other component that's as easy to remove/replace.

Good luck, enjoy the IC

Interesting. What are the pricing on a GRS? Webpage to buy?
And off course it's a perfect fit which doesn't need modifications?

Thx!

What are the power gains? With no other mods on the car?

I'm a CAI 'Ho
Bought one of the first BMP kits
first Alta kits
and now the HDI..
Actually I've always wanted a closed box and had even done home made tops for my Alta.

When the HDI came out I jumped on it. Of course 2 weeks later (approx) Alta comes out with a top. If they had done so sooner, like I and others had requested for a looong time, I might just have stuck with my Alta. It's a good kit. Want to buy it??
But that's the reason. Both are good kits
The advantage for me with the HDI is it made it easier to run the cables for my UniChip and it's shiny
