K & N Air Filter Vs JCW Filter?

After a bit more help regarding the air filters.

I was thinking (and hoping) to get the JCW Exhaust kit, which gives out a nice sound and look too. Though its alot of money and for the moment i wont be affording the kit

I did ask a local dealer about the JCW Filter (only), and i think the price was around £200 which was was too high for such a small add on. So i did decide to wait and buy the full kit.

Though cash is still tight, so im thinking of the K & N Induction Kit (57i) which is quite cheap and i could sell it on easy when i want to upgrade to the JCW Exhaust.
Ive seen it around @ £80.

Though a few things- is this the best filter to go for? And also my local dealer said that if i used the K&N Filter i could not attach an engine managment cable (or something like that), which would mean i would have an engine fault light on all the time?!
Is there any truth in that as well? As they would annoy me

Thanks to anyone that can help me out

I recently fitted the K&N 571 kit to my girlfriends cooper without any problem.
I'm not sure that the management cable you mention is, but you do install a new bracket to hold a connector in place, which I'm presuming is what the dealer is talking about.

The noise it makes when you boot the right pedal still makes me grin...

Just waiting for the Milltek exhause to arrive...

i had a 57i on mine sounded awesome and went straight on. well worth it as i sold it for what i paid for it as they are in demand Mine was £50, keep an eye out they pop up around this price.

Also the dealer was fine with this so no worries on that front

absolute rubbish.

Only the JCW intake has a computer controlled component, there is no cable that attaches to your stock intake, so there won't be a cable to remove and reattach.
