Question ECU remap

Dear friends.-

I am about to start tunning my mini for more HPs...

I am thinking in getting a new SC pulley, and maybe crank and alternator pulleys.
I am changing the air induction system and the spark plugs.

Most of you are telling me I have to upgrade my ECU and I undestand why, but now I am very confused.

First, for an ECU remap, do I have to get new hardware? (replace stock ECU),

Can I use MTH or GIAC upgrades on my stock chip?

What about Bluefin and UNICHIP?

Many thanks for your help.

Guillermo

Bluefin (Superchips), GIAC and MTH all offer remaps of the ECU software. These remaps are applied via the diagnostic port connected to the ECU. Bluefin and MTH allow you to switch back and forth between the stock and performance maps, Bluefin via a hand-held device and MTH via a laptop. GIAC remaps must be applied via an authorized dealer.

The Unichip is a "piggy-back" computer which sends the ECU "false information" to obtain improved performance. Unichip maps are available based on "generic" engine mods or can be customized via a dyno.
