Clanking noise after pulley install

A few hundred miles ago I had an M7 supercharger pulley install at a local mini ship.

I now have a loud clank, clank, clank coming from the tensioner/belt with black (rubber) dust on that side of the engine!

Has anyone experienced this before.......whats the fix?

The car has 6K miles, the original belt was used, the pulley bolts, tensioner bolts are tight and the belt looks to be riding in the middle of the pulley although a few mm side-to-side movement while running.

Any thoughts or help appreciated.

Maybe your tensioner is hitting something because your have the stock belt and your running a 16% pulley. There could be too much room for the tensioner so it snaps to far back when you release the throttle?

It's a good idea anyway to get a smaller belt, the dealer should have them and they are not expensive, over here about 50 euro's with labour.

The stock Conti belt is ok with the 16%.

There should be no side to side movement when observed at the SC pulley unless the pulley is installed cocked at an angle. That kind of misalignment would cause the belt to hunt for good land & groove interface and surely the belt would walk, if the belt were traveling in and out of the grooves that would cause the belt to tighten and loosen rapidly overworking the tensioner damper. If the damper has failed the tensioner spring would oscillate but that would not cause the belt to move left and right.

You must redo the installation; new belt, pulley, and installer (DIY ensures conscientiousness). I’m biased against the product/vendor used (was not the first pulley defective?) but more than likely it was an installation error. There is a small chance the damper coincidently failed at the same time.
