Exedy Hyper Single clutch evaluation

We installed the clutch to our Mini One S last Thursday with pleasing results. I like the feel of the clutch - there is a noticeable difference between the sprung plate and the solid hub as there’s defintley less shock transmitted through the drivetrain on gear changes and you don’t look like a ‘jerky’ driver when moving off in first gear.

While we changed the clutch in the car we also upgraded two other components: the engine and the stock pistons have been upgraded to FTR custom forged pistons, for some serious nitrous abuse and extreme amounts of turbo pressure in the future, the FTR cnc head finally found out where it should be – that is in the car instead of being on show.

Our first run actually pulled the motor down due to the new found grip, so we therefore had to up the rpm launch to a new high to get rid of this problem for the next 6 runs. So what we were launching at…..7450rpm

We are really pleased with the clutch, the pedal is heavier than standard but it is what I would expect. Importantly though it feels superb on the track and equally good on the road.

We are installing a FIA spec. chrome moly cage at the moment a requirement for cars that are faster than 11.99, so the car is out of action for a couple of weeks. However, after that anyone is more than welcome to pop in and see how the clutch feels and also this package on the car, but please ring first.

Fantastic news Is that the flywheel aswell you changed? With Purple Aluminium cover?

Sounds like you're on the road to moving into the 11 seconds now and heading towards your all time goal

Yes the Exedy package includes the chrome moly flywheel and Hyper single clutch, It really is a loverly piece of engineering but unfortunatley it has to go somewhere where no one will see it.

Just a quick update after 20 x 7400rpm launches and 55 rollingroad runs and a lot of road miles we have pulled the Exedy Clutch out for evaluation and it has worn a total of only .008 thou on the clutch plate.

Yes I think we all agree its very good....even the starter to ring gear noise you get with the Fidenzas etc is not present with the exedy.....jap engineering you cant knock it

How does the combined lighter flywheel affect every day driveability? E.g. do you have to be careful not to stall the engine etc.?

If I said I dint notice anything abnormal with the Exedy apart from the normal gearbox noise, it'll be living in our silver Mini shortly so anyone is welcome to try it.
