Servicing a tuned mini?

Hi there guys.

My car is getting close to it service period and I am I wondering where people with mildly tuned mini's are getting their cars serviced.

Q1 - Would you send yours in to BMW and risk having some of your parts swapped for standard items ie. the irridium plugs, or would you send it in to one of the tuning specialists?

Q2 - If it is not serviced by BMW is the computer still reset so that the service interval reading is correct?

My car has a had the folllowing done to it which makes me a little apprehensive about going in to BMW - Minispeed 210 package (pulley, bluefin etc), K&N Typhoon CAI, GTTexhaust reroute pipe.

What kind of service are we talking about? If it is just an oil change, I either do it myself or find a local shop as the BMW dealers here in Germany want a fortune to do it. You can reset the computer yourself after that.

The trick is to either find a dealer that is mod friendly or find a tuner that is willing to do the work for you at a reasonable price.

We'll ship anything anywhere if the price is right it would be probably cheaper for you to come here though

I was in a similar situation a little while ago Robboc, I didn't really want my local BMW garage to fiddle about with my Hartge MCS. So had a chat with Paul @ 1320 & they serviced my car & incorporated a rolling road session. As Paul said, they'll do a few more checks than BMW would, plus they are as enthusiastic about Mini's as we are (probably more), your car is not treated as just another job.

It's a bit of a trek to get there from where we are but well worth it in my opinion, some nice country lanes to test the car as well

Im coming to this situation soon aswell, i think the only part they will change is the Plugs of mine that are uprated so i was going to just say leave them alone or if they do change them can i have my originals back!

with my other mods tho i dont no what there reaction will be!

I hope they'l just carry on with the service.

Heh, your just down the road from me Hartge, will have to keep an eye out for you.

The trouble is, i dont trust BMW to leave things alone even though I have asked them to. Think I may givethe 1320 boys a try. It would be much better to have her looked after by someone who has a bit of interest.

I'm sure it'll be fine if you take it into a main dealer! Just stipulate that you do not want them to remove any non BMW parts

I take it you have no TLC services left?

I will be in the same boat very soon.....

I have no TLC left and was considering get the TLC upgrade. My next service will be the MINI Inspection II at approx 60,000 miles. However I am sure BMW will notice the modifications when they change the belt !!!

Maybe I will have to go down the independant route.......... any ever got a MINI Inspection II done on a modified MINI under extended TLC ???

Thanks

Perm
