Boost Gauge Install - Do I Have This Right?

Ok so I need some help again!

I'm looking into fitting a boost gauge to my S. I have read god knows how many threads and posts etc on the subject and I'm pretty sure I have it sussed but just want to check before I go buying anything.

So after mounting the gauge on the rev counter and routing the vacuum pipe through the gromit on the n/s into the engine bay (where the thick red live wire goes through) I just need to connect the pipe to the fuel pressue regulator (FPR).

Could I therefore do this;

- Cut the pipe that connects underneath the fuel pressure regulator.
- Put a T-joint into where I have cut the pipe.
- Connect the vacuum pipe (that goes back to the gauge) to the T-joint

Then I'm away (apart from the electrics obviously), yes???

Or, am I better off NOT cutting the pipe that goes to the FPR and doing it this way;

- Disconnect the pipe going into the FPR.
- Connect this to one side of the T-joint
- Cut a small peice of the vacuum tube off and connect this to the other side of the T-joint and connect this tube back to the FPR.
- Connect the vacuum pipe to the remaining port on the T joint which then goes back to the gauge.

The first idea sounds easier to me, but I'm just worried about cutting the FPR pipe.

I've read the guide on North American Motoring but I just want to make certain that I have it right so any help would be very much appreciated as always.

Regards,

Mat

Oh I forgot, I know I'm going to have to remove the I/C to do all this as well!

Sounds good to me, thanks very much Roland! Will the vacuum pipe that comes with the gauge (Autometer) connect back onto the manifold side?

Another question, on a few threads on this subject I have seen reference to "the VGS mod", I cant find out what this is all about. Will it effect me?? (My Car is on an 03 Plate)

Is this the manifold end of the pipe coming from the FPR you are referring to?

Right thats that bit sorted!

On the how-to I've read;

MINI COOPER :: North American Motoring - AutoMeter Boost gauge for 70$

The guy has routed the vac pipe through a gromit in the firewall on the drivers side (LHD), which is obviously our passenger side over here. So is there a way of getting the vacuum pipe through our drivers side?

where did you get the guages from? I got mine (OEM upper kit) from the US and they had to be pulled apart and rewired to work properly on Aussie compliance. Could be another headache coming up!

I've got the gauge from autometer, according to the how-to on North American Motoring its a pretty simple job wiring the electrics up, I just have to splice into the grey/pink wire that powers the existing gauge lights.

The plan however at the moment is to just get the gauge in and working, then I'll sort the electrics out, if needs be I'll get an auto electrician to have a look.

Can anyone help with getting through the firewall on the drivers side?

Theres a grommit on the drivers side on the firewall,you should be able to route the pipr through that.
Also the bonnet release cables go through the firewall on that side too.
