Changing the supercharger pully

Hi there,

Just wondered if anyone could tell me how to change a supercharger pully on the MCS, and if i do will i need a re map?

Also between pre face lift and face lift how did BMW get the other 7bhp?

One last thing would an 04 plate MCS be the face lift version?

Alex

You dont have to have a re-map

Teflon supercharger

Probably not, you better to look for build date on the outer o/s inner wing

Cheers 1320,

did they change anything else like the gear box for the face lift version.

from a pre face lift S, with a 15% supercharger pully, spark plugs and pannel filter, what bhp would you expect?

yeah, im going to be buying the S of my mates parents, its an 04 plate, with 50,000 miles on the clock, so im not sure whether i should go 4 it or not.

I have 1st refusal on it, but i wont be buying it untill November time.

I wasnt going to get rid of my One, but i drove my mates 250bhp MCS the other day and OMG its so fast!!!

I no i will be starting off with near enough 100bhp less then him but i can always make it the sam epower in due course.

We've seen 10whp difference between early and late engines, if you stick with the early blower you might just make 190+ with a pulley and panel filter if you have a good one, with the later blower we've seen 210.

IMHO pulley ex manifold new stock oem filter and £4 each NGK single electrode plugs is the best bang for the buck.

The later gearboxes have much better ratios for aceleration, just like your box now in your One

i remember u just saying the other day how ur ONE is for keeps etc! but a 250bhp S, that must fly like a rocket!

Yeah, i did say that, but the thing is i like Minis so much and in reality im not going to get my Mini One much faster than it already is, thats just my problem i want a faster Mini, and an S is the only way to go.

When i drove my mates MCS it was un real to say the least, i havnt driven anything so fast in my life, we did 0-60 the other day and we got between 5.4seconds and 5.7.

I will be sad to get rid of my One but i will VERY happy driving around in a supercharged version!

Alex

Changing the pulley is about a 3 hour job (a little less if you are good with tools) and is no easy undertaking. Basically you have to lift the engine to get to the pulley and then put it all back together.

Yep....exhaust does virtually nothing the stock one flow reasonable and maintains good backpressure for the engine. The manifold is where the power is made!

1320 and many others will tell you its pulley, manifold, intercooler, intake, exhaust in that order for power. Remaps are only really needed on cars that will be pushed very very hard or if your car is running iffy anyhow. To do those mods and get best power you ned various other ancilleries like sparks, belts etc etc but most of those mods can bolt straight on.

I agree and disagree with this statement. A remap may not be totally necessary as the base ECU has a pretty large window, but it does provide a more balanced running engine. This increases drivability at the lower and mid rpm range as well as the top end. The remap is one of the best mods that I have made.

I think what i will do is get the LCS 1 package and then put my MiniMania exhaust manifold on with the stock exhaust.

As for the GTT re route pipe, is that a modification that will need declairing to the insurnace even though its using a standard system?

Alex

p.s. thanks everyone for your help and advice so far!

Thanks Richard
I have been looking into CAT back exhaust for the sound, but I might shift my focus onto the manifold and CAT.
I will take a quieter car with more power over more noise less power anyday.
Any thoughts on good brands?
NOtice the OBX is cheap out of the US (no CAT?).

Is it easier to remove the supercharger and do the swap on the bench than to just swap the pulley over in the car?
