Opcon Supercharger??? Been speaking with my mates Dad and he has a strange old mini, it really seems to be bits from all over the place, a Hartge head, different pulley, etc anyhow he has been told to try fitting an Opcon Supercharger and you can be looking at nearer 290 Bhp. And on top of that it will only require 20bhp to run it. Now i am a little skeptical. and did search o here but only one post came up from back in 2002. So anyone know what he's been told, Anyone heard similar I can't see that just a different supercharger is onna boost that much, as surely the problem is not boost levels as M45's already push 18PSi ( which is actually high even comapred with turbo cars) but more along the lines of Flow, ie headwork, cams, intake system etc etc. Any ideas

So far the superchargers available are 1 the eaton -roots type -pump 2 the rotrex -centrfugal compressor-(turbo but belt driven) 3 the opcon- mine is ,I believe the only one in the world!! -twin screw compressor 4 the larger eaton m62 is being tried but suffers as does the m45

Hi Roland , The conversion was always with the opcon, I never considered the larger M62 (I think the americans are trying) ,it is by nature (roots) inefficient and simply consumes too much hp . and too many pumping losses,What I am trying to achieve is not so much the bhp gain but monster torque and a torque curve to die for!! -the twin screw does not have an efficiency area or rpm where it works best at like the the rotrex (centrifugal compressor) and matches centrifugal compressors in efficiency terms- clearances are much tighter than the rotors in the eaton and far less losses there too. I expect around 40 degree + drop in temp over the eaton at the same boost and a saving of 20-30 bhp in terms of power to drive it (so that kinda answers bluesox question) an interesting google search is the Hartge H50 (M3) they used an opcon in a one off car and created their fastest ever car!! --"wall of torque" another US company has an opcon on a M3 (e36)as a kit ,makes around 435bhp and the torque curve , well curve is the wrong word -its a flat line Hartge H50 Compressor H50 compressor articleregards Adam

PRESENT-DAY SUPERCHARGING - EXPEDIENCY OR EFFICIENCY? / AJ6 Engineering A good read -well presented and clears up a few myths about the eaton, anyone considering tuning a cooper s should have a read it explains a bit why the charger does not like being worked too hard ,and why so much heat is generated when trying to do so. also explains "boost pressure" relative to a supercharged engine -its still missunderstood by owners. I am working in conjunction with Dennis P at AJ6 superchargers on my car and the conversion,I have had a delay on getting a quality intake fabricated (Graham at GRS has kindly offered to make one for me) but for the time being I shall go with the rubbish one I have to enable testing and get a proper finished one later ,post testing . I would like to get the car upto Paul at 1320 autos for dyno runs(the MINi world is small isnt it?) and it would give a good comparisson against stock numbers. The UK is trying to keep pace with our US cousins over the water ,and I sure we will keep up!
