I'd check with insurance before conversion as some companies might refuse to cover it.

its a see-saw really

at first it don't feel amazing, you drive off, and you think ummm ok , and thats only because in your head you build it up and tell yourself its going to be like 5 times as fast ( which it ain't as your only upping 50bhp.

But then you get on to the motorway and plant the right foot, and you think, ok that feels different, then you do it again and again ad again and its liek " i like that", you have a play with another couple of cars, smug and happy with our new found speed.

Few weeks later still happy, feels quick.

Then a few weeks later still, unhappy, as now you are used to it you don't get that first rush anymore.

Few weeks later, you again feel unhappy as you are back on the phone ordering bits for the next stage as you hungry for that power fix again. Viscous circle, but ehy i say its liek a see-saw, as you are initally down on drive away, then happy with new perfrmance then sad as you want more.

Pound for pound its the best mod you can do, and to be honest the most difference you will ever notice. i think if you were at 220 then added up to 260 you would'nt feel as much difference as you do when you go from stiock to GTT220. Enjoy it though.

insurance, i pay #500 fully comp all mods declared with Adrian flux

I hardly ever thrape my car so when I do I still find the 210-230 bhp I have thrilling. Worse thing you can do is try and show people how quick your car is, I can even feel it being slower just with one passenger.

You've only got to go take a drive in a 'normal' car to appreciate the difference. Going from a 1.6 5 ton 1 series bmw courtesy car and then back to the S is fantastic

For me, I kicked myself for waiting three years (having said that insurance would have prevented doing it earlier), it transformed the car. I also said the same about dumping the runflats, and more latterly switching to light weight wheels.

My insurance went up about £400, my excess to £750, this was with MINI insurance, who I stayed with as I had a case at arbitration with them and it made things a lot easier.

I'll be leaving them at renewal time as quotes from competitors are about £400 less and the excess £250 for similar cover.

I agree about having an extra body in the car it really slows it down, being fat doesn't help either, I've reduced the weight of the car since I got it by a good 30lbs... all of it off my beer gut + plus the 'one ball' that Roland kindly cut off for me.

I just worked out that a full tank of petrol is about 80lbs, not sure how much difference this makes to performance.

Weights the killer for acceleration. I've dumped the rear seats and put on some Speedline Turini wheels which are 50% lighter then the R90's i had on previously. That made a big difference in itself

I agree with Ant FR - I didn't drive off and think "wow". It's a nice general increase across the rev range, and with the lightened crank pulley, gave better low-down response (although the supercharged power delivery still frustrates me sometimes).

I'm off down to GTT on Thursday actually for a service and also having Roland fit a new gasket to my Milltek cat-back - bloomin' thing is driving me mad at the mo!

James, maybe you should get a manifold

You know it makes sense ...

Yup i've got the same wheels and also removed my rear seats, weight is a killer!! It's such a heavy little car.

The difference is like night and day in my cooper s when I have passengers, feels so sluggish. Turbo’s seemed to pull the exact same whether there is one or five people in the car, well my mates focus RS does anyway.

I’m desperate to get down to GTT to add a few more things to my car but I just cant find the time just now. I reckon you’ll love the difference, I don’t think I could live without the sound of the charger whining with the smaller pulley on.

Sush you! Talk about a bad influence! I'm already skint from spending a whack on my Nurburgring toy!

I'll see if Roland's got a manifold in stock!

James

P.S. Completely agree with Willie - you can notice the difference with even just one passenger in the Min, yet my step-Dads Golf GTI Edition 30 seems quick regardless of passenger count!

If you're asking about the affect of additional passengers on acceleration, there's two main things I can think of:

i) A turbo car feels quite different to a supercharged car in terms of power delivery (unless we're talking about one of these new-fangled twin-scroll jobbies). A turbo has that mid-range punch that even additional passengers will struggle to take the edge off it. The rate of increase of acceleration in a supercharged car is more linear, and so there's always that feeling of waiting for it to "wind up".

ii) This is probably much less of an issue, but there's also the fact the increase in weight in relation to the original weight of the car will be greater in a Mini (~1250kg) than say a Golf GTI (~1450kg). i.e. Adding a passenger to both cars will have more of an affect on the lighter car.

Please note that I could be spouting utter tosh!

James

Ye i see what you mean, the weight of a person as a percentage of the weight of the car. I.e. you will notice differnce in accleration on a push bike more than a aircraft. Or a Mini or a Golf :P
