Does this belt need changing?

From this thread...

http://www.mini2.com/forum/engine-dr...rger-belt.html

...I get the impression it needs doing immediately?

Edit: this is on a car with a 17% Reduction Supercharger Pulley.

I would say yes. There is no spacer visible on the retainer tag! You won't be getting optimum performance with a stretched belt

Cheers,

Henry

Idealy with a new belt I like to see at least 13mm upto 20mm of available travel on the tensioner. Looks like the belts too long for the job. Full acceleration in first or second gear will result in running out of travel & belt slip.
We have a very special belt we took off a car last week.....I'll put a thread up next week ,that'll make you laugh.
Best Regards Roland GTT

No problem stock crank pulley with -17% SC pulley works best with 1365mm belt...failing that a JCW 1374mm. The stock 1388mm is too long. We can supply the former if required.

Roland what size belt would a 15% pulley and a 2% crank pulley require?

This is odd. I'll bare it in mind if I can't sort it with the original supplier

The belt I had on as standard before the pulley change turned out to be the same size as a friend with a JCW car Not sure whether this was because I had a shorter belt (mine had done 40k his 30k) or whether his dealer never fitted the shorter belt in the first place!

But My tensioner had a good 5+mm of metal showing before the circle with my standard belt, and that was after 40k!

The new one I fitted with the Pulley was only marginaly smaller than the one that came off of the car. Can only assume the reason it was marginaly smaller was due to the old one probably having stretched after its 40,000 miles with the standard pulley, and the belt I have may in fact be for a standard car

Will see what happens.

Updated my earlier post to save duplication of a reply to the same thing twice.

Got chance to measure my stock belt tonight. It was 1380 on the exterior of the belt. As you can't measure it as a ring accuratly, I placed 3 markers around it flattened the individual sections and measured these and double checked so its its accurate. Baring in mind this belt has done 40,000 miles, it was certainly never a stick belt going off of Rolands figures, and thats assuming the outside is measured (as inside in theory should be a bit shorter).

So I can only assume my car had a JCW belt on it as after 40k its still nearer to the JCW belt size than the stock size.

Does anyone know if the belt size change due to something in the engine changing?

The belt currently fitted to my car is 1368mm, Consdering the little leeway its given can anyone give a knowledgable answer on what size would give it back its leeway, I'm thinking 1354-1358mm?

Just in case anyone was taking note of this thread.

MASSIVE Thanks to Lohen who offered to have a full butchers at the car to make sure everything was okay with the car.

They confirmed nothing unterward about the car itself and also that the belt I had removed was in fact a stock one not a JCW one. Not sure how I managed to measure it wrong

Anyway decided that would prefer that a shorter belt. Ended up with a 1353mm belt. Harder to fit but its done the job spot on. Looks like it did before the pulley was fitted
