sorry friday engine

friday nightmares?

any suggestions as how to turn a friday engine into a midweek wonder?
on the basis we are not talking about worn engines ie 50k, vs brand new
then how do you get back the missing horses

not been on a dyno myself so hope i am mr midweek already, but can imagine not being happy at being told "friday engine" hard luck mate....
are people suggesting poor fit is loosing hp
so is it a case of re-build req?,
or should we look at supercharger, manifold, ecu etc... any ideas?

quite a few mini2ers are chasing big hp and spending big to get more umph
just wondering is there a simpler way to start off in the right direction...
by making the most of what you should have had to begin with, [excuse poor english]

You better get booked in then alski

On a serious note we're just going to have to wait till we get a Friday engine in and then go through a serious of checks.

But like I keep sayiing to people if you're happy with the car before dynoing dont worry about it. if you want to chase numbers then we're here to help.

But I'm betting on what Tuls said and low compression and high leakdown results.

I was always impressed with your engine but I just couldn't afford topping it up with oil every week.

I guess it could be variation in the timing as well as compression. Makes me certainly think is always best to dyno your car to start with and see if its a strong one to start with.

Well fingers crossed, all is well. Just need to dyno it again to see what she pulls

My MSC is a Friday afternoon build!! Never really went very well, Ray West who tuned my car said you get these cars every so often!! I believe cam timing and tolerance on the crank journals been on the tight side is the main cause!

Although I have a West Tune cam we still had to use a GT Tuning Adjustable Vernier Cam Sprocket to get the maximum benefit from the cam. Still please with the end result, over 250bhp on 15.5 psi of boost. I’ve check the boost readings with various boost gauges to check the boost is right – and it is!!!

Hi, the most common reasons for low performace for no apparent reason are incorrectly adjusted bypass valve, faulty bypass actuator, air leak on the high boost circuit, faulty T Map sensor, slipping belt. All of which are easy fixes and either carried out or at least checked as part of GTT220 -GTT260 conversions. Graham has a point in that as the cam chain wears (stretchs) the cam timing will retard but this is marginal. We have checked stock and shrick cam timing using degree disc, mag base and drop clock.....all were bang on to manufactures spec. Thats not to say that moving from this figure cannot give gains ,it can,... hence the GTT Adj. sprocket.
Regarding compression the recommended figure is 10% max difference between cylinders. Having said that you can have 20% difference and still have a quicker car than one with all the same comp. readings . These are just my experiences of the situation.
