Bypass valve

Hi All

Got some issues with JCW (see here, think I posted in wrong forum...http://www.mini2.com/forum/faults-fi...per-works.html)

Anyway I think I've got a problem with the Spring on the BPV as my car feels very slow at the minute like it's way down on power/torque. All of a sudden yesterday it seemed to get better, but again today it's back.

I think the Spring is sticking, as when I touch it and pull it back with my finger, it doesn't go back all the way and you have to push it the rest of the way. See the picture, can someone tell me if that is the BPV Spring?

Thanks alot

Gav

Does it sit firmly closed against the grub screw when the engine is off? When the engine is running is it fully wide open? If not and doesnt smoothly open and close on the spring then it needs some work. I believe the BPV isnt an expensive part but not sure if you can source the spring seperately. Anyone else know?

Thanks for reply. Had the Bypass valve replaced today and it made a MASSIVE difference, so completely fixed the problem. Blimey I forgot how fast this car is.

I just broke the grub screw on my bypass valve (it had been stuck in with loctite).
I decided to drill out the screw, and retap it. Bad idea. Ive now completely snapped the bit of metal. Im contemplating getting a Detroit tuned one? If they will send it over, i reckon it will be about $160, which is about £80.
Anyone know if any of the UK companys offer a similar product?
I need a BPV asap, or my car will stay in the garage

Just read up on the DT Bypass Valve....

I reckon if you get a new OEM valve and adjust it correctly it will be just as good as the OEM one!

I doubt you would notice any other difference other than another item to add to the MOD list.

I have a DT bypass valve in right now and I'll post my thoughts on it.

First, the response is a lot quicker and the car is definitely getting all the boost. That is the great part of the valve. The downside to the valve is that at standard use of the throttle the car seems a bit choppy. This is due to the on or off nature of the valve with the heavier spring. I think that nicely adjusted OEM valve will provide a better ride for the daily driver.

When i discovered my Bypass valve wouldnt close the power loss was very noticable
I tie wrapped it closed and the power was back but was an uncomfortable ride in normal traffic
hence bought a new one from BMW for about £40 not put it on yet though

That is sort of how the car feels with the DT valve. When you step on it, she runs well, but for regular traffic it can be a bit choppy feeling. Luckily I live out in the country so I'm not bothered but I do have my old one just in case I change my mind.
