Question Cruise Control - Display Set Speed?

Hi all,

Was just wondering if it's possible to display the speed you have set, when cruise control is on? This is one thing I find a pain when using it, as there's no way of seeing what you're increasing / decreasing too.

Was hoping Mike @ newministuff might have some gizmo up his sleeve

Cheers!

Oli

Don't you get that automatically as you nudge the +/- buttons? That happens on mine for about a second and is very useful as it makes it easy to co-ordinate the cruise with the true satnav speed readout + or - whatever margin you want.

If you've got the on-board computer and can display your speed in the rev counter, then that displays what speed you have the cruise set to.

Or is that not what you meant?

Always wondered on the MINI.... does the speed read what cruise control says or what your actual speed is??

David, supa-dupa-cooper, you both describe exactly what I'm after!

I have the onboard computer (mpg, range etc etc), but it doesn't show my speed, or the cruise control speed. Was this a feature of the later models? (mine's a 2003 MCS).

Possibly it is a feature on the facelift (04 on) MINIs.

My 06 MINI ONE had the speed readout, as does my Cooper D

Hmm, typical. Anyone with a pre-facelift with the speed readout / cruise control readout on the computer?

I can't comment about your model, I'm afraid, but I can't see why your C/C should be different from mine.

But I assume you're only trying to set it while travelling at over 30 mph 'cause it's deactivated below that? If so, then my routine is:
  1. Press the 1/0 button on the right-hand MFSW group while driving at the desired speed and check that the speedo warning lamp located at about 28mph on the main speedometer comes on and the speed is displayed briefly in the rev counter.
  2. Take my foot off the accelerator pedal and fine tune the speed with the + and - buttons, noting the speed setting display in the rev counter, until it matches the read-out from my Tom Tom sat-nav and is what I want. (Fairly legal!)
The setting is stored until the ignition is switched off but the C/C is deactivated by braking or changing gear and can then be reactivated by pressing the speedo button on the MFSW. But it remains active if overridden by accelerating to a higher speed and returns to the set speed after that

(None of that may help you, of course, if your C/C is different but I hope some of it helps!.)

David

Yeah, sounds about the same as mine (although power button is left side of MFSW, along with the RES button, and + / - are on the right side of MFSW), but the speed isn't displayed when fine tuning

Not on mine either. A 2003 S built in December '02.

I have preface lift (2003), and I have avg speed, avg consumption, vehicle range and outside temp.

Hmm, just looked in the manual and it states - "You can have another unit of measure preset by MINI Service".

Might have to take a trip to BMW tomorrow, and see what they say about adding speed, current consumption and cruise control speed Anyone else have anything extra?

Went to Sytner Nottingham, and they didn't have a clue (as usual)!

Said I'd need to book it in to hook up to a laptop and see what options are available - told me it would cost 4 man hour units...he then got his calculator out to work out 7 * 4 = £28.

£28 + VAT to enabled a standard feature! They've got to be kidding!

Does anyone know where I can purchase the cable and software to enable features myself? It must be cheaper than £28! If anyone has it, and would be willing to lend it to me, that would be appreciated also
