Rev Limiter on 1st gen MC

I've had a search around but can't find anything on this, I'm sure it's somewhere?!!

Anyway, does the 1st gen MC have a rev limiter at all? I'm sure it must but I had to get out of a sticky situation quickly the other day, red lined it but didn't notice anything stopping me going further!

Any info would be great.

Cheers,

James.

Yes, there is a point where it is stopped from revving higher. I forget just what it is though. 7,000? 7,250?

Its 7200 or therabouts on the cooper s, i just wish it sounded more like a honda limiter, it limits and wont bounce off

If it helps, the ONE with the same engine is limited to 7,000 rpm. Presumably, the rev limits would be the same?

Andrew.

So how do I know if I hit the limit, if there's no noise or bounce presumably I won't?

If you hit the limiter in a ONE then it bounces against maximum revs ever so slightly and you lose all acceleration (maintaining speed instead). It actually feels like you hit an impenetrable wall of maximum speed and that everything has gone horribly wrong - not a nice feeling.

Presumably, as it's the same engine, then the Cooper will be exactly the same - you'll just get to the rev limiter faster. I've never driven a CooperS so couldn't tell you about that one.

Hope that helps.

All the best,
Andrew.

Yeah when you hit the limiter it feels like your engine has just died and you lose all power.

The Rev limit on our cars is marked by the red lights on the rev counter, on the cooper it starts at 6800 if im correct, and possibly the same for the S.

7200 or 7250 is possible with a remap.

The first tick of the red light zone begins at 6800 on the ONE, but the rev limiter actually kicks in at 7000 rpm exactly. I have tested this... extensively.

I can't imagine the Cooper having a lower rev limit than the ONE.

All the best,
Andrew.

Yeah, although the red line starts at 6800, it doesn't limit there. I still can't say exactly where it limits but know I've had it in the red. There must a spec from Mini that states it?
