There have been more than a few people asking about what bhp and torque figures different Mini2 cars are generating with their various tuner or homegrown conversions so I thought I'd start a thread where Mini2'ers who've had conversions done can post dyno runs proving their power in the hope the administrators deem it worthy to be a sticky.

I'll start but could everyone also include their car details as below:

Hi,

Does anyone have a dyno showing AF ratio vs rpm they would like to share ???

I'm just interested what ratios people with modified engines are running on the dyno.

Cheers

Robbo
Here's a dyno plot showing A/F ratio that I had done last week after fitting a -15% pulley. As can be seen from the plot A/F ratio remains very rich even after the addition of a pulley (stock map).

The stock intercooler heat soaked very quickly, however, the dyno operator conducted all tests with the bonnet up resulting in no forced air convection through the intercooler core. Personally I think the bonnet should have been closed, can someone shed some light on the correct way for testing cars fitted with a TMIC?

OK, we have a new idea that I think will work well (Thanks to MINIAC) on posting dyno and track information. I have seen a few complaints of information being posted in other threads and thus lost in the depths. This thread will be a sticky that you can post your results in and then link to them when you want to offer it up in a thread.

Posts would include:
  • Model
  • Build Date
  • Mileage
  • Engine Modifications
  • Tire Size
  • Dynometer Type
  • Maxium Power (bhp or whp) at RPM
  • Maximum Torque (lb-ft) at RPM
  • Dyno Graph (attachments)

Please only post results in this thread. Any chatter will be removed as I want to keep this as clean as possible. If you need or want something else in there, please let me know via PM. Thanks.

SRR figures

As Snowie has been asking for some SRR figures I thought I would post mine up to start off

269.5bhp@7500rpm (graph shows some clipping above 6500)
215lbs/ft@4800rpm (could be a bit more though from looking at the graph as it is nearly on the next line up which is 218.75)

From reading another thread it seems that some people want to cap the rpm limit as that can "fudge numbers". A vendor also said "I tend to ignore bhp numbers once the torque has fallen below about 15% ish of max torque,it is far less useful power and only derived due the rpm" so when you look at my graph you can see that my peak bhp figure is at 7500 and my peak torque is at about 4800 an I still make 192.5@ the redline (so that is around 11/12% ish of max torque)

I only make 2.7bhp from 7000 to 7500

So I think it is fair to say that my car is set up to run higher rpm limit period. Not just to bump up the peak bhp figure as some might think

The wheel horsepower for my car using my measured run down losses from 1320's dyno means that it is 233.5WHP (269.5bhp)

Ok here's the spec of my MCS,

02 plate
mileage 47000
258.8bhp
205lbft
Engine mods:

West Tuned conversion;
Big valve head (not sure what spec it is but I know its big valves and ported)
Large throttle body
West Tuned own cam
Live map by Ray West
GRSmotorsport charge cooler
NGK spark plugs
Miltek exhaust
Miltek manifold with sports cat
Alta air filter
GTTuning 450 injectors
GTTuning vernier cam sprocket
GTTuning 17% pulley
GTTuning Adjustable Fuel pressure regulator

The story between myself and Ray was basically I want the maximum amount of horse power with the minimum amount of boost and had to be reliable. My car runs no more than 15.5psi of boost, I've done track days and a hill climb course and drive the car the way Ray instructed me too - always brings a smile to my face everytime I drive it

Here are my data:

-02 cooper S, mileage 60000
239,2HP
259,9Nm
205/40 17 Yokohama Parada

- Shrick cam
- "noname" water to air intercooler
- "noname" 19% pulley
- "noname" custom head with original valves
- "noname" big throttle body (63mm)
- OBX header+header wraps
- no cat
- One ball with custom 2,5" stainless steal pipe to back resonator with magnaflow middle
resonator
- denso iridium IK22
- K&N panel filter with modifed airbox
- calibrate bypass valve
- fidanza flywheel
- aquamist water injection
- MTH chip (but it's very old and it's write only for the pulley :))

I think that's all. :)

The temperature was 17°C. For each graph we do 2 measurment.
This is independent measurment of power on MAHA LPS2000 dyno. The power is with EWG standard which is more accurate than DIN but lower number. At DIN standard power will be bigger for approx 3%.

Here is without water injection, the water in intercooler was hot because the car was there for about 30min without fan. Maybe it will be a little more gain with cold water.

This is with just water in water injection. The water injection is not necessary with good intercooler!!! Gains about 15 HP are dreams. Only with custom chip maybe you get something.

This is 30% methanol in water injection. It's bigger power but the curve is deformate like with just water.
Now I start with water injection at about 4000rpm, but I will start now at 5000 in the future but only in summer.

Any comments?
Does gearbox (pre of post facelift) influence to power? Do you measure it in 4 th (I am looking only 116mph at 7000?!?!?) or 5th gear?

You need a manifold... Those parts coupled with an intercooler and manifold should see you with 200whp or very close IMO.

For youir 209bhp power that torque does not seem terrible, not as good as it could be but not terrible. The mods you have added add some torques but in the main your being very restricted by your flow rates...the JCW exhaust is notoriously restrictive, and the lack of a manifold will also hold your torque down even if your hp (power) increases.

Also on the dyno a stock IC can struggle to ensure enough cool air to the engine...the flow from the fans at most dynos are just not enough to ensure that a pullied car delivers its full potential if its running a stock IC IMO...I'll lay money if you cooled the IC you'd see an improvement in torque, and a manifold would let your torque curve improve instead of flatlining once it hits the restriction point of the manifold and exhaust.

#23 ·
Just checked your graph and it shows just what I mean.... look at the way your torque climbs till 4000 and then flatlines (its like the car hit a brick wall in terms of delivering potential torque) ... best guess as to why would be what I have put above... your power seems ok so heat is obviously not as big a deal as I though (although a GRS or GTT IC would help gain a fraction more power at top end, where the car gets hot)

Just my guess/opinion, but i bet some more flks will look at the graph and come to similar conclusions.

#24 ·
Cheers for that, I did think the flatter the torque curve the better?!? But it does seem to hit a wall at 3800rpm ish
I almost bought a Janspeed manifold when Lohen were doing their group buy, but had just bought some brakes!

I agree I could do with an intercooler (was going to go for the GP one) but the weather was around -1degrees on saturday when the Dyno was done, so doubt it would have got too hot.

Think I'll have to make a manifold No. 1 on my list after Xmas
