I have took them to the test lab at work for material tests and so far the salt test has found the coating of the KMT (Gold passivisation) lasts for just over 96hours where as the alta powder coat lasts for 240 hours. this is nothing to worry about but should be a consideration, also the salt test is a harsh test.

I will upload the report once it is finished for you to make your minds up

I'd be interested to see that. Also how it is carried out as i'm sure it's way beyond any normal day-to-day useage. Based on where the pulley is located I can't emagine it gets subject to salt or the elements nearly as much as something like suspension struts.

I had alloy topmounts on one of my old cars destroyed by that stuff they put on the roads in winter. Got jammed on the underside after being thrown up by the tyre & rotted them to bits

Its an extreme test where the products are based in a chamber and are subjected to salt and water blown at them to simulate x amount of years passing (very worst case) the test are part of british standards and many products go through this sort of testing.

I Just thought it would be nice to see whats what and to see if your correct and it is better than the USA versions. I will also be testing an original if anyone can get me one...

r1_kde,

any chance you could do a ball indentation hardness test on the pulley as well?
To check the steel hardness as an indicator to wear resistance?
BTW just bagged a set of new plugs for <£10 as well.
I love budget tuning!

So how many years does that equate to for the KMT sat in a hurricane on the salt flats?

I think the M7 is a close match to the KMT if you wanted a US equivalent. That or the old Alta. Not the version 2 as that's completely different.

I can perform a hardness test for you, may take a little time as I will strip the material to ensure I do not test the coating.

From what I have seen of the two products the materials are very close ie they are both a form of plain carbon steel but I will try and get some grades

I've seen those burnout exhausts before, but I have no clue what they sound like, so I stayed away, let me know how it sounds

Mods: MiniMania CAI and 15% pulley, Racing Brake front rotors, EBC Green Stuff front pads, ALTA 19mm anti-roll bar

If you need a data about the hardness I can do it for you. Just tell me in which unit do you want it?
But if you have lifetime warranty it's hard enough.

I think the "You get what you pay for" rings true with this exhaust as a lot of manipulation was needed to get it to fit properly:
  • Hangers needed heating up & moving
  • 2cm needed taking off the end of the t-piece pipe to get it to sit right
  • Whole thing needed manipulating to stop it sitting too low

Anyway my trusty mechanic still only charged me £45 for the 3hrs labour he put into fitting it!!

Now it's on it sounds proper deep & throaty. Thought I attached a youtube clip earlier in the thread?

I had those, not bad for the right money...just that fraction harsh on my roads so i ended up switching to KW coilovers so i could go softer for my back day to day and firm up in 5 mins for the strip and track. But I did 30k miles on the KWs and really thought they did the job klooks and handling wise for the price I paid.

Well the KMT lasted the trackday & I managed to lap the full GT circuit at Bedford Autodrome a full 4 seconds a lap faster than my mate in his E46 M3

Shame the same can't be said for my brakes going the distance
