Milltek exhaust without centre silencer?

Has anyone removed their centre silencer (top section of the pic from my gallery) on their Milltek (fitted to a Cooper S)? If so, can you let me know either verbally, or via YouTube, what it sounds like?

I need to replace my exhaust mounts for the third time as it seems the mounts are unable to cope with track days and they keep splitting. This will be the third time I have had to replace the mounts and at AU$55-65 a time for two pieces of rubber it's getting a little tired, so I'm hoping I can find an a longer term solution.

Im thinking of doing the same, by using a supersprint straight through centre pipe, heard one not long ago, sounded more raspy, not much louder but more meaner sounding

1 word.... loud!

I have been in cars with Milltek (mine has one including) with decat manifolds, cars with playmini (has no front silencer) and cars with JCW (no silencer)...all cars had GTT decats manifolds and the playmini was loudest!

now imagine the louder back boxes on the milltek, coupled with that missing front silencer as on the playmini...it will be very very noisy!

That said it will also be very very nice!

I am having a custom done , a one ball of the milltek basically and I have decided to retain the ffront box due to hearing the playmini with no front box, and i love loud, so that goes to show how loud i think it will be! Should be deep note loud though as the milltek back section is what controls the sound of the zorst the most.

Dont know how much help this is going to be but...

I removed my resonator (centre silencer) on my R56 Cooper S and it make the car about 150% louder inside the car but only around 5-10% louder outside..

The noise inside the cabin is pretty unbearable, so I am due to be getting it welded back in ASAP.

The car popped and banged A LOT more, and the pops were really loud and all the time. This may be a good thing for you... but its too much for me. My interior mirror is now redundant because it vibrates so much when accelerating (due to the in-cabin noise) that you literally cannot see out of it..

Just bought a Mini Cooper S !!

I think rob is a semi racer though, so he's probably looking for it to be high flow etc rather than too worried about noise...although io guess it still has to be drivable to abnd from events?! I think it will be OK but I recon if your decatted it will have some hell of a roar inside and outside the cabin.

I removed central resonator on my JCW exhaust after baffles worked loose. Made it a little louder and a little bit throatier. Biggest difference I've noticed is when it pops/backfires when you change gear it does so much louder!

When I compare it to GP's exhaust tho it seems far louder!

Perhaps you may consider reducing the torque motion of the engine, given the track day use of the car. The engine undergoes a lot of fore and aft motion undr hard acceleration/deceleration, as this occurs condider the degree of deflection through the exhaust. Perhaps once you stabilise the engine, the related motion being directed to the exhaust hangers shall be substantially reduced.
Perhaps check the integrity of the existing engine mounts to see if there are any that may already be a little less than they need to be.

cheers

Harry

Yeah, I've had that thought too Harry, but not looked into it.

I replaced the mounts with new OEM parts yesterday, here's a comparison between old and new...

I think the root cause is the thickness of the hangers on the Milltek. They just seem too thick for the holes in the OEM mount, so the part is getting stressed the moment it is fitted.
